  Your donation to this project has made a HUGE difference in my classroom. Now ALL my readers can access books they love. Listening to reading is just as great as reading words on a page. Some of my students just need a little extra support and this headphones are a GAME CHANGER. Did you know that readers can understand texts 2-3 levels higher in complexity when the books are read to them?

• A Just-Right Spot

  THANK YOU so much for your support with this project. My students LOVE the lap desks and use them everyday as part of their learning. Whether students are reading, writing, working on math or collaborating in group projects, these 'lap' desks allow them to take their learning anywhere in the room.

  While it may seem like these desks are just a piece of furniture, they are NOT - they are much more than that. Students are able to take their learning to places that work for them. After all, we all do not need standards desks to function. Some don't even need desks.

• A Calming Corner

By funding this project, you have been able to put self-regulating tools in the hands of my students (sensory balls, some books, and even a STEAM building set). They just LOVE to use these tools to calm down, and reset after an upsetting event. Your donations made all the difference.

  Teaching children to cope with their emotions in appropriate ways is one of the many important skills we teach at the elementary level, and these tools truly make my students want to take the time to reflect on their feelings, identify them and choose appropriate tools to calm down.

• Biographies for Bilinguals

  The books have arrived and we could not be any more excited! There are so many biographies...people to learn from. From Cesar Chavez to Jackie Robinson - so much variety.

  Many of the books have already been read from cover to cover...and learning from people that have really made a mark in history is so important. These books will also be part of a bigger unit later in the year as we dive deep into history.

  As I was going through all my books (classroom books) this summer, I realized my students would not have access to high-quality literature unless I did something about it. It was then that I knew I had to ask for help - the help from people who not only believe in public education but also believe that each child should have the opportunity to read great books.

  When my students saw the books you had so graciously donated, they could not believe it. They could not believe people they did not even know would be so generous. I told them that the books were donated by people who believed in bilingual education - people who knew that having the right books could make all the difference.

  Students who I was told did not like to read, RUN for the books as soon as they become available and read them. Children are reading book, after book, after book. Boys and girls love all the books about animals and they are learning SO much.
