  • Books, Books and more Books!!

    Funded May 11, 2019

My kindergarten students and I are so excited about all of the new books that have received thanks to your donations! I am using these new books during our read alouds to model what good, fluent reading looks like. These new texts are also extremely helpful in building our vocabulary, as they each have several words that are unfamiliar to kindergarten students. Many of the books I received through this project are nonfiction books, which I am using to integrate into my Science and Social Studies instruction! My little kindergarten scholars will have a wealth of new vocabulary and comprehension strategies by the end of the year thanks to your generous donations for these books!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lewis

  • Learning with Alexa

    Funded May 20, 2018

My students have loved getting to learn with Alexa. They get help spelling words during center time, this allows little disruption to me working in small groups with other students. Through out the day we like to have some background music, having Alexa allows the students to ask her to play music. We also like that she can keep us on time with her timer and alarm settings. In kindergarten things are often changing and you have to be on your toes, with Alexa you can ask her to remind you various things as they change as well. One of the kids favorite things is asking her to choose a random number, roll a die, or play Rock Paper Scissors. Thank you so much for taking the time to invest in my students and their education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lewis

An Amazon Echo to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Amazon Echo or "Alexa" is a state of the art artifical intelligence which can be utilized in the classroom. This will be a guided independent research tool for our classroom. As we learn and grow we will be able to ask Alexa all kinds of questions like, “What is the capitol of Florida?” or “How do you spell Mississippi?” We can also use Alexa for a timer, vocabulary, reading stories, and even playing music. I often struggle as with meeting student needs especially while I am with other students. I want to maximize student learning, and I will use the Echo as a powerful tool to do just that. Students will be able to explore the world as never before!
