  • Books to Inspire

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

I want to tell you how grateful, excited and appreciative I am of your support. My students and I are really thankful for your generous gesture.

Your kind actions gives me the motivation to do my best for my students because I know that you believe in the things we do. Students are the future, and at times the only thing they need to succeed in life is support and motivation. Your generosity has provided both. When we received the books my students were very excited and eager to read the new books. I, on the other hand, was ecstatic because now we have books that provide different levels of reading for all my students.

The project that you fully funded is now allowing my students to practice reading, acquire new vocabulary, improve their writing and obtain knowledge that is only available through books. They are reading every day for 20 minutes, and the fact that they have a variety of books to choose from allows them to enjoy what they are reading. Many of my students are immigrants and some of the books that we received talk about the difficulties that immigrant families go through to survive in the United States. So my students can relate to these books and really enjoy reading them. I am very excited because when they are writing the summary of what they read, I see that their writing skills are improving.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you very much because you made this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Romero

  • Technology for Students

    Funded May 21, 2014

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know how excited, grateful and appreciative I am of your generosity. My students and I are really thankful for your kind action.

As teachers we phase many challenges day after day, but when we received support from people like you, it gives us the motivation and strength to do the best that we can for our students. After all, they are the future, and providing them with a better education will give them the tools that they need to succeed in life. My students were very surprised and excited when they saw the computer, and I was ecstatic because I knew that my students were going to have a reliable computer to do research and their presentations.

The project that you fully funded is now allowing my students to look for information, graphs, articles, videos and to put together their Power Points. Having a reliable computer that will not freeze when I am writing notes with students, presenting a new concept, correcting homework, or simply showing them illustrations for new vocabulary has made my teaching lees frustrating. This project has increased my students' engagement and participation in group projects because now while some are doing the research, others are putting together the information. Some of my students are also grateful that they can use the computer in class, because they do not have a computer a home.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you very much for your kind actions”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Romero

  • AP Books for Success

    Funded May 9, 2014

I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I am very grateful for the great support that you have provided in donating to this project. My students and I owe a great deal of gratitude.

Not having books that provide the necessary type of exercises that allow students to practice the activities presented in the new AP Spanish Language exam, can be very disadvantageous for my students. Especially when my students can't afford to buy these additional resources. The district-approved books we currently use are outdated, and my students knew this. Fortunately for us, we were able to obtain the new books due to your generosity. When my students saw the books they were very excited, thankful and surprised. And as they were looking through the books, they had a better understanding of the types of activities that will be presented on the exam. It is undeniable that by obtaining the books they will be better prepared for the exam, but I feel that they have learned how much people care about their education, and how willing they are to invest in them. That is the greatest lesson to learn because my students need all the support they can to succeed in life.

We are using the books everyday. The books contain themes, listening and comprehension, speaking and writing activities that my students need for the AP exam. They also provide techniques that prepare them for every section of this test.

Without the books, I was having a very difficult time putting together lesson plans with graphs, real media, articles and exercises needed to effectively prepared students for the AP exam. After I received these books, I was provided with many of this content and material. As a result, my planning and lesson presentation became more effective. I am using these books daily to supplement content that is missing from the approved district materials. This why I am very appreciative that you have donated to my project, I could not have done it without your support. Thank you very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Romero

  • Books for Learning

    Funded Apr 26, 2014

I want to take this opportunity to tell you that words cannot describe how excited, and appreciative I am for the contribution you made. My students and I are forever grateful for your kindness.

My students were very excited when they saw the materials that were purchased thanks to your good heart. The activities in the book, provides the support that they need to be successful on the AP exam. When my students saw the exercises, and after they practiced some of the activities, they saw how beneficial these books were going to be. Also just to hold a new book in their hands gave them a sense of pride, because they knew that these books were donated specially for them.

The books provide 5 full-length practice exams, including two on the CD-ROM and one on-line; as a result, the students will have the opportunity to practice several exercises for the AP exam. This will boost their confidence when taking the test. In addition, this book provides strategies that will guide students to be successful in the exam. These strategies are beneficial in their learning because they are guiding them to focus on the aspects that are important when they are reading a passage or a graphic. As for the writing section of the exam, it guides them to organize their thoughts, provides transitional phrases to help them make their essay flow smoothly from one point to another. Most importantly, it provides the students with ideas on how to write an introduction paragraph, the body of it and the conclusion.

This book provides all the support that my students need. As a result, his project has boosted my teaching in many ways. I have more time to correct and plan for other classes because I do not have to look for the resources on line, or spend time putting together lesson plans that required graphs, articles, videos and broad casting. I can now get all these materials form one resource.

I want to share with you, that before I received the books, my students were writing emails, and I was feeling frustrated because their responses were short. They were not elaborating their responses. I really did not know how to guide them, so that their email composition would have more substantial information. When I received the books, I immediately found out various strategies that my students can incorporate to make their emails better. After sharing with the students the strategies, their responses were more complete. There is no doubt in my mind that if I can continue to use this book as a resource, my students will be successful when taking the AP exam.

All of this has been possible thanks to your contribution. From the bottom of my heart I want to tell you that you have definitely made an impact in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Romero

Chatsworth Charter High School is an urban school. Most of my students are primarily Title one recipients. Although they face social, emotional, and economic challenges, my students are hard workers and eager learners. Many of them understand that education is the key to have a better future. Unfortunately with all the changes and the lack of funding, it becomes more challenging to provide a quality education.
