Funded Jan 1, 2019I want to take this opportunity to tell you that words cannot describe how excited, and appreciative I am for the contribution you made. My students and I are grateful for your kindness.
The project that you fully funded is now allowing my students to practice reading, acquire new vocabulary, improve their writing and obtain knowledge that is only available through books. They are reading every day for 20 minutes and the fact that some of my students connect to the themes, problems, and situations presented in La Casa en Mango Street, makes it more enjoyable. I am, on the other hand, very excited because when they are writing the summary of what they read, I see that their writing skills are improving. Also, when we analyze the situations, conflicts or themes, my students are eager to share because they can relate to the reading.
In my classroom, I include 20 minutes dedicates to reading. Even though I teach Spanish, I incorporate literature to explore or reinforce new concepts. Reading activities vary from analyzing passages whole group to small group projects. The books acquired through this grant have expanded my classroom reading library.
The students are really enjoying the book because they are able to relate to the story. This is evident in their summaries as well as our classroom discussions. For example, when we read the passage about the name of one of the characters, its meaning and why she had that name, my students were eager to share their names, the meaning and why this made them unique.
Again thank you for your kindness, your actions give me the strength and encouragement to try my best for my students. After all, they are the future, and providing them with better education will give them the tools that they need to succeed in life.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Romero
