  • Bring on the Focus!

    Funded Jan 20, 2024

Thank you so very much for your donation to my students. They will be very excited to have these earmuffs to help them find their peace and focus on their work. Your support will help students in my classroom get what they need, whether it’s time for quiet independent worktime or the ability to work with a partner without interrupting an earmuff-wearing neighbor!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Beauregard

  • Paper Free & Organized

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Thank you so very much for your support in funding this project. This iPad has supported my teaching and student learning within my classroom. You have helped to make our classroom more efficient and engaging.

I am using this iPad to efficiently monitor my students' progress digitally so the data can be shared quickly and I can access it whenever I need. As students work, I walk the room to check how well they understand the standard we are targeting that day. I am able to immediately record that data on the iPad. Later, whether in the same class, at home while planning, or while having a discussion with other teachers, I am able to access this data to best support the student.

My 5th graders get to use this iPad while working in a small group with me. These groups are designed to support students as they need extra instruction on a skill or targeted standard. I can create or download interactive lessons that the students may work together to interact with to complete. These lessons being on the iPad makes them more engaging for students to maximize their learning.

Thank you again! You have made a difference in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Beauregard

  • Creating Community Through Change and Action

    Funded Jul 13, 2021

My 5th graders are spending a lot of their year learning how social change comes about and how to become leaders in their own community. To begin the year, we built a strong classroom community. Thanks to you I was able, to begin with a new unit originally written by The National Civil Rights Museum, Creating Change Through Action. You helped provide the hard copies of books I was able to make available to my students. These are helping my students think together about the past, present, and their own future as we continue to create our classroom community and determine how they can become leaders in our school and the wider community. Books like Drum Dream Girl and The Book Itch were fast favorites. Those along with Who Was Gandhi? and A Picture Book of Martin Luther King Jr. were borrowed often off of my display rack.

When we return in January, we will begin a unit about our society's changemakers using a model of Jackie Robinson. I am looking forward to bringing out books such as, It's Your World, Get Informed, Get Inspired, and Get Going along with our books about the Voting Rights Act of 1965. These not only connect to and teach about our history but inspire students to determine what it takes to be a changemaker in our society today and maybe even to "Get Going!"”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Beauregard

  • We Read for Social Justice!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

I cannot thank you enough for your support in receiving so many books for my students. Already this year, we have used MANY of them in read-alouds, and students had the opportunity to pick up a brand new copy of Esperanza Rising to use at home during remote learning. This year is a huge challenge, both because we are working remotely and because this is my first year teaching 5th grade reading, writing, and social studies. Your generosity has given us hope and joy as we continue to build a community of learners that work together to understand our world and do our part to make it better.”

  • Collaboration is Key for Success in Math!

    Funded Nov 26, 2019

Your donation has led to countless smiles! Every time I brought a group of students up to the dry erase table, they immediately became engaged in the learning so that they could begin doing a math problem on the table as quickly as possible. It was beautiful!

I think the best part of having students work on this dry erase table is the collaboration that occurred without prompting. Students who were sitting next to each other were able to look at each others work and give simple, immediate feedback. They were also able to help each other simply by pointing to the work in front of them! "Look, right here. We have to multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number." Those are the types of things that make my heart swell when I over hear them!

Thank you again for your generous donation. While I am not sure what kind of learning environment we will have next year, I do know that the table will continue to bring more excitement and love of learning into our lives!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Beauregard

  • Pencil Monsters

    Funded Jun 29, 2015

Thank you very much for your help with our pencil needs! There are now no problems that start with "I don't have a pencil!" My students were in awe as we opened the box and saw an immense number of pencils! It may as well have been 1 million dollars! Now, every morning one student is in charge of sharpening all the pencils we will need for the day so students can trade a broken pencil easily for a nice, sharp one. Your gift has made our "pencil problem" disappear and learning run more smoothly.”

  • Creation of Craftsmanship: Looking at Our Own Work

    Funded Nov 27, 2014

Thank you so much for you donations! My students and I were so excited to receive it! It took a while to get a tech in to allow the software downloads on my school computer, so it sat up front for a bit, taunting us. While we waited, we named it Ladybug. Our little Ladybug, waiting to make us better students and teachers.

Well, when our tech finally finished the set up (and complimented Ladybug for being a great product), we got right into using it in math. The students have GREATLY enjoyed being able to show off their strategies, answer questions, and teach others by clearly displaying their work on the smart board. This has allowed them all to grow their confidence, whether that's by showing their work or asking questions of each other. It has been wonderful, as you can see from the pictures.

After April vacation, the students will use our Ladybug to share and critique writing. This is what I have been waiting for! The students are already very proud of their newly imagined scenes for Peter Pan they have written, now they will examine each other's work, find the amazing pieces that can teach everyone about good writing, and give each other tips and help to improve the parts of their writing that need it. Watching students critique each other's work is always an amazing sight to see, but to be able to do it on this large scale will be very exciting. I can't wait to see the pride on their faces when they share a piece of their own writing as an exemplar, their determination to improve as they ask for help on a difficult piece, or hear their thoughtful ideas as they give suggestions for those improvements. Those moments are what a teacher lives for!

Thank you again, for giving my students and I the materials to make us all better teachers and learners.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Beauregard

My students are wonderful 3rd graders, a bunch of very excited 8-9 year olds. They sure keep me on my toes. All of my lovelies live in Hartford, Connecticut and come to see me at their neighborhood school every day. This community is generally low income and fairly culturally diverse. We are constantly striving to meet our "Compass for Learners" here, which includes four points: courtesy, craftsmanship, resilience, and responsibility. Every student in this school, from pre-k to 5th grade, knows, understands, and can give examples of what those points mean to them. In 3rd grade, these compass points become more important than ever before. This is the point in school where students are expected to read to learn, instead of learn to read. The expectations are high and can be daunting to many students. They learn to be supportive of each other and of themselves.
