  • A Secure and Organized Start to the New School Year!

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you so much for being a part of our class community through your generous donations. Creating a space that sets my students up for success with not only the physical environment and behavior expectations, but with having all of the resources to meet their individual needs and privacy protected is so important. Thank you for gifting this to us!”

  • Cooking Up Some Fun!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

The cooking cart and supplies have brought a lot of joy, creativity, and community to our classroom. Since receiving the cart we have used apples from our snack to make cinnamon apple chips, tortilla pizza, deviled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sliced veggies with hummus, a frozen yogurt pie, various fruit smoothies, pigs in a blanket, and green mint-chocolate chip pancakes for St. Patrick's day! The class is excited to continue to learn how to make new recipes. The students have enjoyed connecting fractions to a real life purpose and it has helped further their understanding of the various values. Thank you for giving our class these fun and exciting learning opportunities!”

  • With One Cart We Can... Read, Write, and Share Together!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

This media cart has made a world of difference in our class each day. The cart is used to project classwork that we do together, to project read aloud books so that all students can see the images and words for books that we don't have class copies for, and to project manipulatives to demonstrate how to use them or to show concepts. For example, when we were learning how to regroup we were using base 10 blocks. I was able to use a set on the cart and project the demonstration for the students to easily follow along. It is convenient to store a student set of materials they are using on the cart shelves so that they are readily available to demonstrate to the whole group. The power strip comes in handy for charging the laptop and the cart itself is compact and can easily be moved out of the way thanks to the wheels.

My students have really enjoyed having easy access to viewing while teaching. One of their favorite things to do is to take turns coming up to the front of the class and using the cart to teach their classmates a lesson to demonstrate their knowledge. It brings a lot of pride to see them confidently standing in front of the class and showing off their skills!”

  • Flexible Seating for Flexible Learning in a Special Education Classroom!

    Funded May 4, 2021

The round table and 4 floor seats have made a huge difference in our classroom. This set, along with the clipboard holder, is now our "writing center". It's a cozy place for students to collaborate on classwork, play a board or card game, or find a quiet place to write. Having flexible seating in our classroom has allowed my students to take ownership in setting themselves up for success. They have discovered through the different options, thanks to generous donations, which seating preferences work best for them.

These items were delivered during our return to in person learning in the spring of Covid, but during a time that we couldn't still yet use soft seating material. For our fall return that limit had been lifted. The returning 4th and 5th graders actually cheered when they saw the room set up with this set! It brought so much joy to provide them with a special room after a year and a half of uncertainty and sterile spaces. Providing a resourceful classroom takes a village and I couldn't thank you enough for choosing to be part of ours.”

  • Flexible Seating for Flexible Learning in Special Education Day Class!

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

My class is beyond excited for their new flexible seating zone. We have not been able to use it yet due to Covid restrictions, but when asked about what they are looking forward to next year it is always this new seating that is mentioned. They are most excited about being able to directly write on the desktops that are whiteboards. The class thinks this is the "coolest" idea. It has been a challenging school year and to have this bright spot to look forward to means the world. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and kindness in choosing these special students to support.”

  • Needed: A Class Library as Diverse as the Students!

    Funded Sep 12, 2020

Thank you for all of your kind donations towards giving my students a classroom library that is diverse as they are! By seeing themselves in the characters of books we have read together as a class has sparked their interest in reading more on their own. As a teacher, this is what I dream of. My students are eager to choose the next read aloud book for the class or to show me books they have at home that have similar characters. These books have opened up conversations on how people are different and how we are the same, regardless of race, culture, or disability. My district is still 100% online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but that has not held us back from reading our books together. I do look forward to the day when we safely return and the students are able to dive deeper into enjoying their new class library. Thank you again for your kindness and choosing to support my students and their love of reading, it means the world that people they don't know are invested in them.”

  • Bringing Distance Learning a Little Closer Through Visuals!

    Funded Aug 12, 2020

Starting off the school year with our new distance learning supplies has made such a world of difference in how instruction is being delivered to my class. The magnetic dry erase board has proven to be a very versatile backdrop for making and hanging mini visual charts, keeping organized with the mini pocket charts, and using the magnetic math manipulatives. It's serving as our mini classroom hub! The engagement level has dramatically increased and my students are making progress on their IEP goals because of it. Last year my 3rd graders read Charlie and Frog as a choice book. They really lit up when they saw we now have the 2nd book in the series, Charlie and Frog: The Boney Hand! My 3rd graders this year especially love the book The William Hoy Story: How a Deaf Baseball Player Changed the Game. I can't tell you how much it means to them to see themselves reflected in characters and to learn about actual Deaf people who have accomplished big things in life. I can see the hope it gives them and lets them know that they too can do big things. These items have all been invaluable during distance learning and I know that they will continue to be great assets to our learning environment when we, one day, return to in-person learning again. Thank you for choosing to support my class and my students, it has brought us all joy during this difficult and unchartered times in education.”

My students are deaf/hard of hearing and require visuals to be successful in their academics. My goal is to have a home set up during distance learning that can be as engaging as possible. The magnetic white board will provide a great backdrop to presenting concepts and ideas during whole class and small group lessons while also providing a base for hanging charts and magnetic manipulatives. The small and large pocket charts will help to organize new vocabulary, sort characteristics of groups, and hold space for our peer "shout outs" of kindness. The multicolored base 10 blocks have an added level of visual support by reinforcing through color, in addition to shape, the different values of each piece. The read aloud books have been chosen because each character posses a trait that my students can see themselves in. In addition to being a part of the deaf/hard of hearing community, my students all come from diverse backgrounds and it is important that they identify with the characters they see and read about in books. Many deaf/hard of hearing students do not progress past a 4th grade reading level. I want to challenge this statistic by providing books that my students can't wait to engage with because they see characters just like them in the stories and adventures!
