My goal is to purchase chair pockets for my classroom. I currently team teach math and science. My homeroom students store supplies inside the desk. However my non-homeroom class needs a place to store their supplies. I currently use book boxes on a shelf in the corner of the classroom. They repeatedly spend valuable teaching minutes getting up to get the supplies they need. In addition, I can only send a few students to get supplies at a time. Twenty four students can not fit in the space at the same time without trampling over each other. They have to retrieve math journals, math workbooks, science notebooks, crayons, etc. at any given time throughout the day. There is not enough room on the desks to get their math and science materials at once. So they make several trips back and forth during the instructional block. If we had chair pockets supplies could easily be stored at their finger tips. With a simple turn they could get the supplies they need from the chair pocket saving valuable minutes of instructional time. I want my students engaged in the lesson every possible second. They are currently wasting valuable seconds retrieving supplies. Chair pockets will allow for shorter transitions and more time for learning.
