  • Bean Bags, Board Games, and Coloring: Our Mental Health Haven

    Funded Aug 30, 2024

First and foremost, thank you so much for your generous donation to our class project. Your support has helped create a welcoming space where students can unwind during class breaks, passing periods, nutrition, and lunch.

Our students work incredibly hard, and the demands of a block period can be challenging to navigate. Thanks to your kindness, I've been able to design a space where they feel comfortable, re-energized, and supported. Students regularly use our mental health haven to play games like Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza, Uno, and Lotería, or to relax with crayons and coloring books. To my delight (but not surprised), they still enjoy cuddling stuffed animals and using stress balls, octopuses, and fidget stickers to help manage their thoughts.

I also encourage students to take mental breaks during class, and the bean bags—by far the most popular item—often spark friendly competition over who gets to use them. When students first saw the space, they were amazed and curious about how it all came together. I explained that it was made possible by wonderful, caring individuals like you who believe in them and their success. Their excitement and gratitude were truly heartwarming.

This amazing space wouldn't have been possible without your support. Thank you again for helping me show my students how much their mental health matters. I am deeply grateful for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tran

  • Distance Learning Con iPads!

    Funded Oct 2, 2020

A huge thank you for your generosity and kindness. From your donations I received an iPad which I have been using everyday and has made such a huge difference in my lesson delivery. As you all may be aware, distance learning is difficult for everyone but more for some than others. Because of this, I have to find ways to make sharing responses easier for my students to access and using the iPad has changed student engagement.

Everyday I start class with some sort of activity that requires writing, and with the iPad I can model what I expect my students to be able to do. I know it makes it easier for my students when they can see me doing the activity on the iPad as they do it at home as well. I have even shared the finished work with students on Schoology so that if they were unable to finish during class time, they can see the document afterwards to finish it on their own and check their answers.

Although we were all thrown into this new way of teaching/learning almost a year ago, I can see how this will be the new norm and I definitely am improving as each day passes. Thank you again for the opportunity to improve my practice with your generous donations. Much appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tran

  • Reading En Espanol! Our Very Own Spanish Library.

    Funded Jan 18, 2012

I'd like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for funding my classroom's Spanish library. Thanks to your donations, students have regularly engaged in silent reading activities that are followed by discussions.

The novels, biographies, self-help books, and anthologies have enriched students learning by expanding their vocabulary acquisition, as well as cultural and historical knowledge. In doing so, they've also strengthened their literacy skills in English which in turn will help them prepare for the next steps after high school.

Once again, thank you for your generosity. My students and I are extremely grateful for the resources you have made possible to us. This library will continue to grow and reach many students to come in the future. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tran

I'm very fortunate to teach students eager to lead the future. Although some students come from a single-parent family household, they don't let this affect them in their studies. In fact, they are forced to grow up fast and help out their families by either working after school and taking care of their siblings. If this is not the case, some parents have 2 jobs just to make ends meet and provide basic necessities. My students are awesome, there is never a boring day and are always a pleasure to teach. They are eager to learn! Our school enrolls on average 830 students yearly and it is located in a impoverished area of California. With all of the budget cuts that California has had to endure over the last couple of years it has had an adverse effect on the amount of aid that is given to our school. Furthermore, our World Languages Department has low funds since the focus is mostly on the core subjects such English, Math and Science.
