  • Mrs. Pickett's Kindergarten Class

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation for a variety of items for my classroom! This year, I’m starting school in a different classroom because mold was found in my regular room. In a few weeks I will be able to move back. In the meantime, these supplies will help me run a classroom with as much normalcy as possible and will help make this a wonderful year for my students. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pickett

This classroom project was brought to life by The Gates Foundation and one other donor.
  • Our Classroom Needs Refreshing!

    Funded Aug 28, 2023

Your support of my classroom needs is greatly appreciated. The items listed in this project will support my students throughout the year. They will have what they need for working on their iPads, learning about hatching ducks, indoor recess, and sensory breaks. It’s going to be an amazing year! Thank you for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pickett

This classroom project was brought to life by Colorado Department of Education.
  • Replenish the Book Exchange

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you for supporting our Book Exchange. We just completed our last Book Exchange of the year. Two hundred fifteen books were exchanged. Families expressed how grateful they are to be able to have new and exciting books at home. Your donation made sure students always have new and exciting books available to them. Thank you very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pickett

  • Bring in the Old Books, Take Out New Books!

    Funded Jan 17, 2022

Thank you very much for supporting the Legacy Elementary Book Exchange! Since March, I have held four Book Exchanges. My goal was to have about 100 kids participate in this project. After 4 Book Exchanges, 117 students exchanged 513 books. I am so happy knowing that so many kids found new and exciting books to take home and read! At the last Book Exchange, I saw students share the books they found with each other and heard one student say to another, "You found that book?! Oh, I wanted that one!" I love the excitement!

Although I do not have any more Book Exchanges scheduled for this year, I have been asked to have the Book Exchange open two times during summer school. Additionally, Legacy Elementary's PTO has included the Book Exchange in 2 events this summer that they plan to host, and has provided volunteers so the Book Exchange runs smoothly. I have even had parents ask me if I will continue to run the Book Exchange next year. Of course I will!

These wonderful reading opportunities are the result of your donations. Without your donations, I would not have been able to stock the Book Exchange with books students are excited about. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pickett

Many families have books at home that no one reads any more. Some of these books are great books! I’m sure there is another family that will enjoy having and reading that book. In some cases, families are not in a position to purchase new books because they can be expensive. You can contribute to our effort to put new books in the hands of students by contributing financially, purchasing books, or bringing books to the school so that we have books available to kids. This book exchange will allow families to bring in old books that no one reads any more, and exchange it for a new (or new to them) book that they will read. This project is partially funded by the St. Vrain Valley Education Foundation. I am interested in additional funding to support this project. Reading with children at home creates warm, happy, and loving associations with story time which increases the likelihood that kids will enjoy reading in the future. Research also shows that reading at home improves school performance. It will increase vocabulary, improve self-esteem, improve communication skills, and strengthen the prediction engine that is the human brain.
