  • Diverse Books for a Multicultural Kindergarten

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you for adding multicultural books to our kindergarten library. It has helped to enrich the students by learning about different cultures and customs. We are learning to celebrate each other's differences and traditions.

We share in an open space, listening to stories about new and exciting customs and pausing to ask questions or share something we found interesting.

All the students are enjoying the books and a newfound appreciation of our individuality and diversity. The books have given us a lot of new material to spark conversations with each other.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roopchand

  • Document Camera for Remote Teaching

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

Thank you so much for helping transform my virtual classroom through the use of the document camera. I use my document camera every day. I am able to switch my camera to the doc cam so that the students can see me doing the activity. I can write in live time using the document camera, which really benefited the students. With the document camera, I am able to teach writing lessons quickly, effectively, and effortlessly. THANK YOU for making this happen! I am also able to model one to one correspondence and point to the text while reading. Thank you for helping us engage our students more than ever!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roopchand

  • Learn through Play

The class and I are very grateful for your generosity. The students look forward to the end of the day when we have center time. They are excited to use the new table top manipulative's to work collaboratively with their peers. The students are now able to use their imagination to build and with the various blocks, magnet tiles and bristle builders. The new table centers has promoted team work amongst everyone.

When the box first arrived and I showed the students the new manipulative's, they started to scream and clap. Everyone was excited and couldn't wait for the end of the day when we would try them out.

We can not thank you enough for the contribution to our classroom.”

  • Printing in Color for Kindergarten

    Funded Oct 9, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The new printer has enabled us to print and display student work and their photos. Using this printer in the classroom has helped us create a lot of labels and colored picture displays.

The students are most excited to see photos of their teachers on the daily schedule. They also enjoy seeing their work printed in color.

A lot of the English Language Learners are enjoying seeing labels and pictures printed in color. The class as a whole is enjoying seeing photos of themselves displayed in their art work.”

  • Listen Up: Supply Our Centers

    Funded Jan 3, 2015

Our class was very excited to receive the pocket chart holder and entire listening center. The students commented on how fortunate they felt receiving the new resources and that they will take care of the new items for future kindergarten students. The students jumped up and down when they saw books with cds for the listening center.

The students are enjoying the ability to listen to books they are familiar with at center time and using the pocket chart for our daily word study activities. The listening center is one of the favorites for the class and has a rotation list to ensure everyone has a turn. We use the listening center and pocket chart easel daily.

I am truly grateful that our project was funded. The addition of the pocket chart easel has added to our daily word study. It has created an interactive way for students to engage in letter recognition. The new listening center has reinforced vocabulary and language to our entire class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roopchand

  • Printing In Living Color

    Funded Sep 29, 2014

Our class is very excited to have a color printer. They love how our computer center is not complete. The students are happy to projects and ways we can incorporate the printer into our daily classroom routines.

The students have labeled the entire classroom with pictures and printed labels. We have set up our classroom daily schedule with pictures of our daily activities and also printed pictures of our cluster teachers to help remember what cluster subject we are attending on particular days. We also created a garden of flowers with our picture for our kinder "garden" display.

The printer has enabled our ESL learners to utilize pictures with printed words throughout the day. The class is also able to create artwork and use pictures at any point throughout the day. We no longer have to wait which has fostered a print and picture rich environment in our classroom.”

  • Play Is Work for Kindergarten

    Funded Nov 2, 2012

Thank you so much for these fabulous additions to our classroom. The children will be able to role play using our barnyard and the toy animals. They will also enjoy using the kitchen and plates and play food that arrived.

Young children must be able to play and interact with one another using concrete items that help them understand their world. Your generosity and support have made so many more activities possible for our children For that we thank you.

Just think of the different scenarios they can imagine using these resources. The children will enjoy learning through play. Thank you again for your kindness and support. Our children benefit.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roopchand

I teach kindergarten in a public school in New York City. Our school is one of the most internationally diverse communities in the country and we are so fortunate to have so many cultures represented. Our children speak many languages but children of every culture long to play and have fun. Play is part of their learning and as children engage in dramatic play, they socialize and acquire knowledge of the world around them. We live in a major urban center so learning about farms and the animals that inhabit them has to be done through hands-on manipulatives. Visits to a farm are possible, but daily familiarity to teach children about animals, cooking, and people who hail from different cultures must be done through props. For that reason I am also requesting multicultural dolls that match who we are.
