This generation of students has a hard time sitting still. I recently switch my classroom into one that allows for flexible seating and honestly, I will never go back. The idea of flexible seating is to allow students to learn in an environment that is best for them. Whether that be at a traditional desk while pedaling a desk bike or sitting on a couch with a lap desk. Students are already gathering the skills to choose their best way to learn through the strategies they are introduced to through our AVID program (AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination) . With these materials, my students will be able to have more of a selection on how they learn best. These donations allow students to sit, stand, or move their bodies in order to learn the skills needed to achieve their academic goals. Each item on list has a specific purpose. For example, a student who needs to bounce a little while they work, one who might get in trouble for fidgeting, can bounce on the balance ball. Another student, who might enjoy sitting on the floor to learn, would make use of the lap desk. The desk pedals would be used for those students who just need to move their bodies while the desk bands will be placed on the standing desk to allow a student to bounce their leg on it. Each item on the list will help students focus and learn in the way that best fits them. I am excited to see the positive growth my students will achieve this year thanks to your generous donation.
