My 8-year-old 3rd graders are bright, hard-working students who are English language learners from low-income New York City families. They speak five languages and hail from 11 countries, primarily in Latin and South America and Southeast Asia. They love coming to school and can't wait to find out what's in store for them each day. They enjoy coming to school for new vocabulary and knowledge. I teach them things that they have never before seen. Their faces just glow with excitement.
