  • Rad Reads

    Funded Nov 10, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation to help build my classroom library. I wish you could have seen how excited my students were as they opened the box to discover what books awaited them inside. I was especially happy to see that even the boys were excited about the new books. They are normally reluctant readers, but the books The Thin Executioner and Homeboyz are already checked out with other boys on a waiting list for them.

These books will ensure that more of my children will be reading over their two week Winter Break. Many students who did not plan on taking a book home over break changed their minds when these new books arrived. I couldn't be happier. Reading outside of school will help my students develop better reading habits as well as increase their reading comprehension.

Thank you again for your donation to my project. Literacy is so important, but funding is often scarce. My students and I all appreciate the opportunity to have a classroom library. The books are already being put to good use. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daly

  • Diverse Books For Diverse Students

    Funded Sep 21, 2010

Thank you for supporting this grant. I felt it was important for my students to have books with diverse characters. I want my students to be able to pick up a book and be able to relate to the characters' culture, religion, and race. With your help, now they can.

When these books arrived, I was also very pleased to hear my male students talk about them. The boys tend to be the most resistant readers, but I already have a waiting list full of boys for the book The Contender.

Thank you again for your help. Providing for my students is often very difficult with funding always being cut and supply money always at a minimum. My students and I both appreciate your support. Without you, it would have been impossible for me to get these books for my students. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daly

  • Reading Rampage

    Funded May 10, 2010

When we opened the box of books and my students saw its contents, a wave of excitement and chatter filled the room. Things like "Oh, I read that first book in that series!" and "I've been trying to find that book!" were being called across the room. For me, the excitement children show when they receive new books is insurmountable.

Thank you for helping me fill my students with joy by putting books in their hands. My students and I all appreciate your help building our classroom library. Books can hugely impact in their lives. Students build their vocabularies and comprehension levels as they read. They can also discover that reading is a rewarding hobby and an activity to deal with stress.

By putting books into my students' hands, you are helping much more than you may ever realize. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. ”

    With gratitude,

  • Reading Frenzy with a Friend

    Funded Aug 4, 2010

Thank you for helping me bring books into my classroom. My students were so excited when the box of books arrived. They love knowing that something is brand new and just for them.

Many of the books have been checked out by students, and a few students have even finished a book already. Because there are two copies of each book, I also plan on using them in January for a buddy reading project.

Teachers in my building didn't receive any supply money this year. Without donors like you, I would not be able to provide my students with new books. Thank you again for your help. My students and I both appreciate it! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daly

  • Boy Bookworms

    Funded Mar 22, 2010

I wish all of you could have seen the faces of my students as they opened that box of books to discover what was inside. It's rare to see excitement about books from a bunch of 13-year-olds, but you made it possible. The excitement hasn't died down either. As soon as the books were added to my library, they were checked out. To my amazement, the Shakespeare was checked out first! There is even a waiting list for the Twilight graphic novel.

Without these graphic novels, my resistant students wouldn't be reading. These books let struggling readers feel comfortable and confident as readers. My students are even reading Shakespeare now, which would not be possible in any other format.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping me create life-long readers. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daly

  • The Right to Read

    Funded Dec 24, 2009

From the moment the boxes of books arrived in my classroom, my students were excited. Many of the books were checked out as soon as I put them on the bookshelf. It's thrilling for me to see my students so excited about reading, and I can't thank you enough for helping me give my students the opportunity to read books that interest them.

It's difficult providing books for my students when there are no school funds available. Your donations have helped me provide my students with the opportunity to read for pleasure, work on comprehension skills, and build vocabulary.

I am grateful for your generosity. Without donors like you, my students would be without these essential materials.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daly

  • "Forged By Fire" Sparking Interest In Literacy

    Funded Oct 25, 2008

Before I posted on DonorsChoose.org, I thought it would be a long wait to receive funding. I am overjoyed that you donated, and I am thrilled my request was completed so quickly. I am almost in tears. I am so grateful, but more importantly, my students will be. I can’t wait to give them the good news. Thank you for supporting my classroom and my students”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daly
