Our classroom is incredibly diverse. I am proud to say that our school is comprised of 66 different nationalities. Several of my students are multi-lingual readers and writers, with English as a second or third language. Their first languages include Arabic, French, Tagalog, Chinese and Spanish. The students come from varying backgrounds. There is a lot of social-class diversity in my classroom, but that is precisely what makes our community so rich. It is evident that my students truly care about improving the world. Many are involved with service learning projects and participate in programs for those at-risk of being victims of suicide. Also, the students are truly eager to learn and grow. They would learn how to channel their passion and creativity into creating a product if they had a high-interest plot book that embraced the popular culture that surrounds their lives.
