  • Special Education Students Want to Leave Their Mark!

    Funded Nov 17, 2009

Thank you so much for your donation of markers to my Kindergarten Inclusion class. While the students have been enjoying the new markers, I have noticed an increase in their language during center time. Some of my students have been diagnosed with speech impairments and do not choose to speak very often. However, when they have materials for artistic expression, they become very excited and like to share what they have created with everyone around them. Your donation has already created so many opportunities for meaningful language and speech practice in our classroom.

The boxes carrying the contents of your donation came to the school about a month ago ago. My class was very excited to see and play with the new materials. Your donation included so many markers in eight different colors. They really enjoy using the bright new markers and the experience actually seems to bring them closer as a group, as they share markers with each other. It is so important for children to gain important qualities such as caring, respect, and loyalty at a young age. Your donation has provided an opportunity for my students to begin to develop those important qualities in their kindergarten class.

Additionally, your donation has created a chance for my students to learn about the generosity of others. Often, a kindergartener's world is based on themselves. It is hard for them to be empathetic to other people at this time in their lives. However, my students seemed to understand that they had been chosen to receive a wonderful gift for their classroom. They were thankful for being chosen and really started to comprehend your generosity. One student asked if we could send you 100 chocolate chip cookies, which is very kind, considering they are his favorite snack! Instead of sending snacks, the class worked very hard on creating cards for you to show their thanks.

Thanks again for your donation of markers to my class. This donation has created opportunities for my students to increase their language abilities, develop great qualities such as caring and respect, and understand the generosity of others. I hope their cards and pictures can show the dramatic impact your donation has had on my students. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Banoff
