One aspect to our robotics team that intensifies every year is programming and coding. Without the programmers and coders, the robot does not function. These young women and men need the equipment to do this task, just like an artist would need a brush, or a builder would need a wrench. The request for two laptops for our robotics teams to use for the future would fill this need. This would provide a way to download robotics-specific software, having the portability to work either in a lab or in the building pit at a competition, and the capability to run the code, and program the robots.
Living in a rural community presents its own set of challenges with education, but technology and access to it should not be one of them. These are incredible students who have a passion for doing something great and magnificent, and I would love nothing more than to give them the opportunity to achieve this and to remove any excuse to accomplish nothing less.
These laptops provide a nexus for our programmers, a place that they can all find shared interests and develop their programming together. They make it possible to take our code and program with us to our remote locations throughout the school while we work and tune the code. The laptops also make the transition between our home-school or lab, to anywhere we travel, more efficient because they provide coherence wherever we are. The laptops are essential to the beginning phases of programming our robot, fine-tuning our functions, and finalizing a competitive robot that these students will be proud of, both in our community and wherever we travel.
