I am a middle school science teacher. I use many hands on activities, S.T.E.A.M projects and real world, problem solving activities to engage my students. However, my students lack the technological tools they need to compete in 21st century academics. With a new Science curriculum and the 8 new Lenovo - IdeaPad 100s 11.6" Chromebooks, my students will be given a chance that they haven't had in a long time. The technology will enable them to extend their learning beyond the classroom walls. Students will use Chromebooks in their daily activities to extend their learning through our new science curriculum, small group activities and various projects. More importantly, they will use Chromebooks to communicate with various other scientists throughout our community to support the various assigned projects. One project students will use their Chromebooks for is, "Can you make a shoebox glider?" This project asks them to design a glider using a shoebox as a foundation. Students will apply aerodynamic concepts, forces and Newton's Laws to design and test their gliders. Chromebooks will allow them to create their charts, graphs and presentations, but more importantly, communicate with NASA engineers to assist them in their designs.
