This year, our school is focusing on guided inquiry mathematics. This method involves allowing students to explore different methods of thinking and showcase their thinking to their peers. In order to accomplish this, my students need whiteboards to illustrate their thinking and a document camera to easily project their methods to their classmates. I want my students to know that the work they are doing is important enough to merit materials that have been cared for and kept in good shape. We have been given a set of dry erase boards that has been used for decades and is in very bad shape. My students deserve to use supplies that are taken care of. Children can sense the importance of what they are doing based on the way materials are handled and treated.
