  • Nifty Fifty

    Funded Nov 9, 2023

Photography is the prime tool for capturing the story of the high school experience, but our tools have been so limited until recently.

The staff is so excited to be 1:1 with 50mm lenses in our camera kits. This lens is perfect for sports coverage in our modestly-sized gym. They've also been using it for environmental portraits of our students for our "Feature Friday" segment on our staff-run Instagram. The size of the lens is discreet, which even allows for students to get academic coverage in classrooms without being too obtrusive.”

  • Behind the Scenes: Yearbook Lab

    Funded Oct 31, 2023

The Tam-O-Shanter Yearbook Staff is so thankful for your generous donation of office resources to get our new publication lab up and running. The value of these supplies cannot be overstated. When we moved into the lab, we were so excited to have a space of our own. Having our own resources, not having to haul office supplies from my English literature classroom, has truly changed our productivity. Students are now able to plot our page ladder on our whiteboard and organize and edit physical proofs of our production pages with such ease! Thank you again!”

  • The Power Behind the Picture

    Funded Oct 25, 2023

Photography is the prime tool for capturing the story of the high school experience, but our tools have been so limited until this project. I wish you could have heard the gleeful cheers that erupted in the yearbook lab when I shared the news with the staff that they would have new lenses to work with, lenses that would allow them greater control over their photo composition for sport and portrait photography.

The favorite of the staff, so far, is the 50mm lens, which is perfect for sports coverage in our modestly-sized gym. They've also been using it for environmental portraits of our students for our "Feature Friday" segment on our staff-run Instagram. The size of the lens is discreet, which even allows for students to get academic coverage in classrooms without being too obtrusive. The staff loves this lens so much that they've asked for more, so that each of our three camera kits has access to one. Thanks to you, we're one step closer to that goal.”

  • Remote Learning?

    Funded Jun 27, 2020

This donation went to my graduating seniors, two of whom did not have access to technology from home. When schools went virtual in the fall and/or increased their virtual options in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the inequity in education was revealed. I feel proud that through your donations, we were able to alleviate this gap for some young adults.

Because we were under strict social distancing guidelines and under stay-at-home orders, I had to use contactless delivery options to get them into my students' hands. They all messaged me to express how thankful they were for your generosity.

Thank you for making this world a more equitable place.”

  • Our Girls Soccer Team is Goal Oriented

    Funded Dec 3, 2020

The 2020-21 soccer season was certainly not without its challenges, as one can imagine playing a contact sport in a pandemic would be. However, with the addition of the equipment received in this donation, the team was able to develop their ball handling and guarding skills while maintaining a safe social distance.

It is difficult to describe the girls' excitement upon seeing their new training equipment. The team went from having a scant few practice balls to being able to develop their agility with the ladders, work their passing and guarding technique with the mannequins, and train individually with the resistance bands and jump ropes. The game balls and carrying case also helped this coach feel more official at game time.

Thank you again for this incredible donation.”

  • Yearbook Staff Needs Cameras

    Funded Feb 6, 2020

Thank you so much for helping me send the editors-in-chief of our school's yearbook staff to college with a new Chromebook. Given the landscape of education this year, students need to be prepared to rapidly shift their learning from traditional in-person learning to fully virtual learning in order to protect public health and safety. This technology will allow my students, who are economically disadvantaged, to continue pursuing their education at the college level without the financial burden of purchasing a laptop.

This is especially significant for two of my editors, who would not otherwise own a laptop. Now, rather than sharing a family laptop with siblings and parents, they have their own devices of which they are the sole owner.

These Chromebooks are going to make a world of difference for my editors as they brave the virtual instruction landscape at university and beyond.”

    With gratitude,

    Mx. Broadway

This classroom project was brought to life by College Football Playoff Foundation & ESPN.
Cameras are an essential piece of the formula for producing a great yearbook. With access to professional quality equipment, my students will get to push their creative and technical skills to heights previously unreached in our yearbook program. Your donation will ensure that the journalists of tomorrow are empowered with the equipment they need to successfully develop their craft. My students are pushing themselves to capture the school year with what minimal resources we have available, but cell phones and a single low-quality digital camera are simply not enough for my students to create the high-quality, timeless publication they deserve.
