  • Make History Come Alive with Art!

    Funded Nov 30, 2016

Thank you so much for supplying my students with all the materials necessary to dive into history through art! Not only are all of my students engaged but they are genuinely having a blast working on their projects!

To some it may seem like a small thing to provide markers, poster boards, display boards, it outs, scissors, glue, and rulers, but to my students and I it means the world. These supplies truly allow history to come alive. The students are engaged with the work and proud to present their final projects. It is amazing how adding creative touches to each unit can change a child's outlook on the whole subject of history.

The kids are beyond excited that they have sharpies, any color poster they want and are also extremely protective and grateful for their new supplies. Thank you for your support of not only my classroom, but the future great minds of America!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barth

  • Geographic Location Does Not Define Education!

    Funded Feb 29, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for making my project happen! My students have been using all of the materials on a daily basis!

Setting up a student print center has been detrimental to the development of my students technological toolkit. Now they are not only able to type a document but they are able to print it out and see their work come hot off the press! Students have been taking turns being lead printer and have really worked together to use this new and amazing station in our classroom. The most exciting part is seeing the looks on their faces when they complete an assignment and hold a printed copy in their hands! They have also been using the pencils and highlighters to assist them with their work!

Thank you for continuing to support both myself and my students! You make teaching 21st century learners possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barth

  • Bees Dream Big Library

    Funded Jul 13, 2015

Words cannot express how grateful we are for your donations to the Bees Dream Big Library. The students visit the library daily to take out books, work in small groups, lay on the bean bag chairs to read, and even work on essays and narratives using the study carrels and new desktop computers. On any given day, you can peek into the library and catch our students completely engaged in their reading and much of this engagement is due to knowing that people like you cared enough to help provide them with the materials they wanted to have a comfortable place to get lost in their favorite books.

After keeping the library a secret the first week of school while we set up the furniture and filled the bookshelves, the students were waiting patiently to be introduced to their new reading haven. The first day we opened it, it was a fight to decide which students could utilize the library first. Each day since, the teachers have to be sure to take turns allowing the students to hang out in the library because they all want to be in there, all of the time. It warms your heart to see even your oldest students and most challenging, silently and comfortably reading and engaged. They even tell each other what not to do in the library to keep it clean and organized, just like they found it. They care for this library, they appreciate having the library and now they have a greater understanding for the importance of reading.

Our next steps are to continue utilizing the additional space for small group instruction, independent reading and quiet writing. Additionally, we are going to begin implementing book clubs and allowing small groups of students to discuss and debate about the book that their club will be reading. They will be able to learn and use the skills to hold organized conversations, respectful communication skills, create fun art projects and formulate opinions on their books. Of course, they will be reading and reading and reading!

Again, words cannot describe how grateful we are for your donations and please know that this library will be utilized for years to come. Our students already have a greater understanding of the importance and excitement in beginning and finishing a good book.

Thank you from the bottom of our BEE hearts,

    Christine Szudzik and Lauren Barth”

  • Current Event Weekly Projects!

    Funded Feb 6, 2015

Thank you so much for contributing to my students and my classroom! The kindness you have all showed us, the kind words you wrote as to why you donated, and knowing that you care about the learning and betterment of my students truly touches my heart.

Upon receiving these materials my students were beyond excited! I was able to put up all the new maps and posters and they were so happy to be in the room. The world and state maps are interactive and all the students were engaged and excited to label them correctly. When I told them they would all be receiving their own copies of monthly magazines in order to do current events they said things like, " Wow, just for us?!" and "That is so cool that we get to take it home and pick articles that we are interested in!" Students have been using these magazines to create current events posters and projects. Having these materials has had an intensely positive impact on my classroom.

This project has boosted the overall moral of my students because it has shown them that people beyond this school believe in them. They are learning about events all around the world and on their way to becoming global citizens.

Again, thank you so much for providing tools for my students that would otherwise be impossible to provide. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barth

  • Headphones in the Classroom!

    Funded Dec 6, 2014

I am overwhelmed with joy for all of your help in making my classroom environment one that is welcoming, updated, and a place where all learners have an equal opportunity to be successful. My students were beyond excited when we received the headphones, as reading is very difficult for some learners, but listening to someone read it through the headphones as they follow along allows them to understand and learn new words each and every day.

For higher level learners, the ability and privilege to listen to calming music as they research is an experience that I am eternally grateful for. I believe working on the computer with music is a skill that helps students to focus while simultaneously preparing them for college. Also these headphones provide something for students to work for as they are extremely appreciate and aware of just how lucky they are that people have cared about them enough to make sure they have all the tools possible to learn as much as they can.

This project has boosted my teaching and my students learning in two main ways. The first is that I am already seeing an improvement in attitudes and behaviors, as certain students are no longer frustrated by not being able to understand and read certain words. Secondly, I am able to reward students that flourish already with the ability to focus and zone in on their own work by listening to music while completing research. I have seen an improvement in the level of rigor and grit they are showing.

I believe that for all the reasons listed above my students are starting to believe in themselves. They are starting to believe that they are good enough, that they do matter, and that they are college material. Words cannot express how grateful I am for that. Thank you again for contributing to my classroom, my students, and the future of America.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barth

  • Listening To Literature

    Funded Dec 24, 2013

With your generous donations, the students of BEES received 55 headsets. These headsets have been and will continue to be used with the students in the classroom for supportive reading through ebooks that allow students to hear books being read to them. This tool is perfect for our ELL students who struggle with reading comprehension as well as our other struggling readers. The students truly improve their reading comprehension when they are given the opportunity to follow text and listen as it is being read to them.

Our sixth graders have been so appreciative of the tool that you have purchased for them. They look forward to independent reading now as well as using our internet-based site that allows students to listen to news articles, news feeds, news video clips and literature. Without these headphones our students would not be able to use this listening strategy.

Lastly, the staff here at BEES is incredibly excited to be able to use your gifts for on-line science. This service will provide an on-line speaker whom will walk the students step-by-step through guided labs. The students will have a sense of independence in completing these labs, even though they will have some voiced guidance. Again, without your donations, none of this would be possible. We are all so truly grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barth
