• Print It, Post It, Learn It!

  We are rolling into the end of our school year and rolling balls with our feet. The ink and laminating sheets are helping us to create large posters to guide our practice in Physical Education class. We hang them on the gymnasium walls with the tape so we can use them as we move with the equipment. PE class is so much fun when we can take control of our learning and motivate ourselves to reach personal learning goals. Also, we like to kick the balls to reach soccer goals. The guide sheets we make remind us of what to do.

• Fueling Our Bodies

  So far, the pretzels are the players' favorite snack before practice. Our athletes gather before practice, excited but worn out from a long day of academic work. The snacks are a great source of energy for our growing, active players. With the healthy options, they can put some food in their bellies and energy in their muscles. The time we spend snacking and chatting helps us build our team communication skills and basketball community.

• Season in Game

  We are one month into our Basketball Season and already student interest is rising. Due to this demand, we have added a second day of after-school basketball activities. On Wednesdays, we have nearly 30 athletes training in the gymnasium. These new balls are just what we needed to keep the kids meaningfully engaged and building their skills and strategies. Our team is getting stronger and playing smarter every week. The bag is just the right size to hold all the balls. The student-athletes can easily manage the equipment and transport it around our space, as needed. This is building their self-esteem and autonomy.

• Coaching to Standard

  One of the great joys of being a teacher and coach is continuing to stretch my understanding of teaching students how to move their bodies effectively as they develop the skills and strategies needed to become physically literate. This year, I was fortunate to have stepped into the role of basketball coach. While I have competed in other sports, my experiences have not included basketball. The online training has given me the chance to learn about coaching basketball so I can coach my athletes and help them prepare for their district league games. The national standards book is bringing me up to speed with the current benchmarks and goals for my students.

• Basketball Team Sweet Lunar New Year Celebration

  We have just entered the new Lunar Year at our school. With most students celebrating the Lunar New Year, we have been celebrating and sharing cultural treats. This has put additional strain on our energy levels for basketball practices and games. This project's snacks feed our bodies and passion for teamwork and cultural acceptance. Together, we are ready to step onto the court and face our opponents with energy and focus.

• Safety First

  We're well in the swing of it now. Basketball practices have officially begun and our first game is quickly approaching. The new first aid kit and medical supplies are already coming in handy. Thank goodness there are no major injuries, but these supplies have already remedied a few bumps and scrapes. Since the issues were minor, we did not have to send players to the nurse's office for attention. We assessed them, patched them up, and got them back out on the court where they really wanted to be.
