Listen "Hear," We Can't Hear!
Funded Apr 29, 2024Headphones have significantly enhanced instruction in my classroom by fostering a more focused and individualized learning environment. One of the primary benefits is the ability to minimize distractions. When students use headphones, they can immerse themselves in audio lessons, video tutorials, or language practice without external noise interference. This helps them concentrate better and absorb material more effectively.
Additionally, headphones facilitate differentiated instruction. With various learning levels in a classroom, some students may require additional support or advanced materials. By using headphones, I can provide tailored audio resources that meet individual needs, allowing students to progress at their own pace. This personalized approach not only boosts engagement but also promotes self-directed learning.
Moreover, headphones enable collaborative learning opportunities. Students can work in pairs or small groups while listening to instructional videos, discussing content without disturbing others. This fosters communication skills and encourages peer interaction.
Finally, integrating headphones into lessons allows for the incorporation of diverse media, such as audiobooks and interactive applications, making learning more dynamic and appealing. Overall, headphones have transformed my instructional strategies, making learning more accessible, engaging, and effective for all students.”

The "Digital Change" in First Grade!
Funded May 5, 2017First and foremost, I want to thank you for providing my students with the opportunity to have a technologically advanced classroom and an opportunity for an enriched learning experience. Being a DonorsChoose recipient has not only changed the educational experience for all my students but it has also changed the way I plan for daily instruction; I am now able to incorporate technology daily. How exciting is that? The three computers we received have also given my students the opportunity to engage in a basic laptop/technology skills in-class training for the first time ever in their educational career. All students are now able to turn on a laptop, plug-in a headset, adjust the volume, log on to the Internet, and engage in multiple learning experiences. For example, they have participated in district wide computer based intervention programs with fidelity, have participated in reading games and programs to increase student fluency and comprehension, as well as, math, science and socials studies programs and exploration. In turn, student engagement and learning interest has increased, as well as, the probability of student success. In addition, they have begun to use the laptops for their Hispanic Heritage and Native American research projects. Increasing technology usage in my classroom has allowed my students to be actively engaged in their learning.
On the first day of school, I informed my students that we would be receiving three laptops from DonorsChoose and their excitement was like no other. From that moment on they asked daily if they had received their new laptops. They looked forward to using technology that wasn't outdated, slow or broken. Since setting up the "laptop center" students look forward to completing their technology based learning programs and assignments without reserve. They have even asked that I plan multiple technology based activities!
I must admit that there isn't just one student that has grown "warm" to the new technology in the classroom, all students have shown great interest in the implementation of technology based learning. Their interest in the use of technology across the curriculum and their desire to be successful has been the driving force in my instructional planning and for that I thank you again.”
