  • Visuals Are Important for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

    Funded Nov 22, 2023

Thanks so much for your generous donations. Because of you, I was able to fulfill this project and ever since I received the printer, it has made a huge impact on my students. Since my students are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, they are visual learners and colorful pictures help them understand what they are learning.

My students are beyond thrilled when they see pictures that are printed in color and they are able to describe things because of the colored images. As I introduced money concepts, they had difficulty identifying pennies because they all look the same but when I printed it in color, they immediately understood that it was a penny because of its color.

I have a student who participated in the school-wide Science fair for the first time and we were able to use the printer to print out pictures of him working on his project and he was beyond thrilled because it was in color.

Thanks so much for your help with this project and it has proven to be very beneficial!!”

  • Help My Students Become Fully Engaged in Learning!

    Funded May 18, 2023

I cannot tell you how much the smart board/tv have impacted my students. They love seeing the visuals on the smartboard and being able to write on it to enhance their handwriting skills. They love it when they can make emojis and express their feelings. This technology has been amazing for math because of the ready-made resources made readily available for me to use in the classroom.

All of my students have richly benefitted from this new technology and they want to use it on a daily basis.

With your generous donations, you made it possible for me to upgrade the technology needs in my classroom. I could not have done it without friends and family as special as each one of you.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!!!”

  • How Important Is Science in the Future of Our Students?

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

My students have been very creative in building different things using the magna-tiles. They love the hands-on activities in using them and it helps them use their creativity skills because they love to see different designs.

When I opened the box and showed it to them, they were thrilled and went right on to work and it was impossible to get them away from it. I eventually had to put it away for a while because some of them were not willing to share the tiles.

We would love to expand our magna-tiles inventory and be able to incorporate more use of it in the classroom.”

  • Hungry During The Day, Need Snacks!

    Funded Oct 30, 2022

Thanks so much for your generous donation of snacks for my classroom. My students become hungry during the day and those snacks help them focus on academics. Most students come from low income homes where food may be scarce.

Thanks for taking the time to look through this project and fund it. I am also able to store the snacks in the cubbies that were also funded through this project.

You are so generous in being willing to help my students during this academic year. By having snacks, they are able to focus on learning.”

    With gratitude,

  • Do We See What You Hear?

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

The laptops have been very beneficial for my students because they have had direct access to google classroom and are able to utilize google documents to work on pictorial projects for sight words. They have learned to use Microsoft Word to create different assignments for Language Arts. The students have also learned how to store their laptops in the computer storage and know that it is being protected overnight and when school is not in session.

The laptops have given the students the opportunity to do educational games and videos that correlate with what they are learning in their core subjects. They are beyond thrilled because they each have their own laptop and can utilize it whenever deemed necessary.

There were two students who were so accustomed to the tablets and had to switch over to the laptops and it took them a while to become used to it. Now they are able to breeze through their laptops and feel at ease when doing assignments. This is the best thing that has ever happened for my students.”

My students are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and rely on American Sign Language as their mode of communication. As their teacher, I often use images from the computer to explain what is being taught. They have to see things visually in order to understand what they are learning. Curtis Pride, a professional baseball player said: "I am not going to use my deafness as an excuse for not being successful". This quote represents what I instil in my students on a daily basis. I often remind them that "Deaf People Can Do Anything BUT Hear". With the use of Chromebooks, they will be able to explain clearly what they are trying to say as well as seeing things visually because they rely on their EYES not their EARS for learning.
