This year my students became equipped to generate their own ideas and propose the materials that would be best to convey intended meaning. By introducing students to the idea of self-publishing, they can spread their artist visions into a world where the knowledge of “print” media is fading away. Since Edison’s invention of the printing press art has existed in an “age of mechanical reproduction.” While digital media is quick and easy to share, having student work documented and distributed in a physical form separates it from the masses. Students have been challenged to create a self-directed project based on their Journey, Metamorphosis, or a Highlight from this past year. I have been guiding with feedback and giving multiple directions as to where my students can take their “Zine.” As projects are developing, I need some quality supplies to help build student skills and confidence as they publish their final versions.
