  • Middle Schoolers - "Let's Play Ball!

    Funded Dec 19, 2024

I am very excited for students to play this new "baseballl/softball" hybrid game in the Junior High PE Classes. We've got the kits. We've used them one day and then had to take a break as we've had record snow and have been unable to use the gym due to roof safety issues. As soon as it's clear we will be back in to play.

It was a fun fast paced game that kids enjoyed and are excited to play again. I am amazed at how quickly they are picking up the rules and concepts of diamond sports.

I think this will increase interest in playing baseball and softball and offer a new game for many years that the junior high PE can utilize.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nickerson

  • Students Love to Drill It!

    Funded Dec 19, 2024

A power drill in a students hand is a glorious thing! Thank you for funding this project. We were able to get a large batch of drills for both the Junior High and High School robotics students to use. They are the perfect drills. Not too strong (strip out screws) and not too weak ( doesn't take forever).

Kids love them. We've checked them out to our teams and they are in full use. I hope to have these for many years to come. Thank you for supporting my classroom and these future engineering and robotics students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nickerson

  • One Pencil to Rule Them All!

    Funded Nov 8, 2024

Thank heavens for mini pencils! This project has been better than I expected. I requested these pencils so that students who forgot their pencil would always have something to write with. This fits that purpose perfect.

However there is an added bonus. Since Covid when I have loaned out pencils to students I have often found them discarded on the floor at the end of the period as well as broken in half. I don't understand why but it's been the case.

With these smaller pencils it's stopped... completely. I get full pencils back that I loan out.

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and helping kids be successful in class!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nickerson

  • Anatomy is Bloody Work!

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

I'm very excited to have these materials for our Blood Sugar Lab. This will be the first time doing this lab and I think it's going to be a great learning experience for my Anatomy students. I've ordered enough supplies to last me several years as well as some of the supplies can be used for other labs. Diabetes is a great health risk to all Americans and students knowing about the risks, treatments and materials used to manage the disease are important.

These students will be headed to college this next year and will be majoring in medical fields. Thank you for supporting them and their future careers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nickerson

  • Drill It, Just Drill It!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

I can not believe how helpful these drills have been. Every team now has their own labeled drill. No more fighting, hoarding or losing drills. It has been a peaceful beginning to the year! These drills also have the added bonus that they don't have too much torque. The last few years I have had many screws and robot parts ruined by students over torquing when putting together their robots. No more!

I am very grateful for these tools for my students. Building is going smoothly and everyone is happy. Thank you for supporting this project and my classroom!”

  • Stick to It! - Robotics Engineering Design.

    Funded May 20, 2024

What a great day when a Donors Choose fills! Thank you for your support of this project.

I received the glue guns and glue sticks. This week kids used them to make cardboard prototypes of their lift for their robots. They worked GREAT!

The nice thing about his project is that these guns can be used for so many great things. I am also loaning them to our Biology teacher for a project she has next week. Many students do not have experience building and prototyping and these tools take out the risk of wasting supplies as well as the fear of making a mistake.

Thank you again for supporting our project!”

  • DRIVE those nuts in!

    Funded May 22, 2024

We've received all of our drills and just this past week I checked them out to my robotics students at both schools. They have been very excited to use them. It is such an improvement in class participating and efficiency for each team to have their own drill. Also the drills are not too powerful so I'm looking forward to not hearing the sound of screws being stripped by overzealous use of a power tool.

They are small and fit great inside our tool boxes. We plan on taking them to our tournaments with us and so far a single charge has lasted a very long time.

Thank you again for supporting these future engineers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nickerson

  • Down With Goatheads! No More Bloody Fingers!

    Funded May 10, 2024

Thank you for contributing to our No Goat Head campaign. We've been using the tool most of the summer and will now hit it again this fall. It works great ! I can't believe how many goat heads we have been able to gather and dispose of. It won't be perfect right away but with diligence we feel this will make a lasting effect on the complex.

Thank you for supporting this donors choose. It's always humbling to see projects filled by both those you know and those who are strangers. The support from the DC community is amazing!

Here's to a goat head free day!
