  • Breaking Out of the Library! (Once More!)

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the Breakout EDU Kit and Digital Platform access, which you generously donated for my students. These resources will provide continued access for students at all grade levels to participate in innovative learning experiences that require collaboration, communication, and innovative thinking!

I have designed Breakout EDU experiences for our students at all grade levels and connected to all areas of the curriculum, for students to access in our Library Media Center. When they participate in a Breakout EDU game, students develop important skills for collaborating and communicating, they persevere towards a challenging goal, they become comfortable taking risks and they continually revise their thinking while overcoming frustration and failure.

Students love the hands-on locks and puzzles for more of a competitive game, but in small groups or individuality, students love to challenge themselves with the digital games as well.

With Breakout EDU, we have had frustration and productive struggle, intense conversations in which a group member has passionately justified their thinking to their teammates, there has been defeat when a solution did not work, and there has been cheering and celebrations when a solution did work. Above all, there has been engagement, collaboration, and perseverance. Teachers are loving it, too!

Thank you for giving my students the tools they need to learn in a meaningful way as they develop critical 21st century skills. This Breakout EDU kit will benefit students for years to come. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hubert

  • We Love New Books!

    Funded Oct 14, 2024

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the collection of new books from favorite authors, which you generously donated to my students for our elementary Library Media Center.

As I continue to work on updating our Library Media Center into a 21st century space for students to collaborate and learn, updating our library's book collection is a priority. The books you provided are new books from favorite authors, highly anticipated sequels, and books with characters that my students want to read about. Students cheered as we unboxed the books and have eagerly begun checking them out to read!

Thank you for giving my students the books that they are asking for. So many students will be impacted as they read these books, become immersed in the stories, and grow as readers. Thank you for helping to foster my students' love of reading!”

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the many warm winter hats and gloves, which you generously donated to my students. The items were distributed to families during our annual Holiday Shop for families in need.

Being warm and safe this winter will help our students be more successful in school. You have helped us prepare to meet students' basic needs so that they may continue to learn and grow in school.

Thank you for giving my students much needed hats and gloves, so that they will be safe and healthy this winter, and able to do their best learning in school. Thank you for caring about my students' needs and their education!”

  • Sparkling With Confidence

    Funded Aug 26, 2024

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the personal care and hygiene items, which you generously donated to my students. These items have helped me create a "Sparkle" cabinet in our library that students can access anytime they need something, whether they have run out at home or need to freshen up at school.

When students feel their best, they will be more confident and able to focus on their learning. Our library's mission is to ensure that all students have acccess to every resource they might need to be successful, and it is so important to make sure basic needs are met, so that students can continue to learn and grow in school.

Thank you for giving my students these resources to meet their needs and feel their best, so that they will be safe and healthy this school year, and able to do their best learning. Thank you for caring about my students' needs and their education!”

Thank you so much for donating to this project and providing this amazing collection of Winter and Holiday books for our library media center. Our library serves 2000+ students in 4 schools, so these books with favorite characters will be well-loved and checked out countless times! I cannot wait to get these books onto the shelves as soon as they arrive! New, engaging books like these will encourage students to visit the library to read, and learn!

Thank you so much for caring about my students and their education.”

  • 3Doodling In Our Library Makerspace

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the 3Doodler Start filament refills, which you generously donated to my students for our Library Makerspace. These materials allow students to participate in innovative STEM learning experiences.

The 3Doodler pens are one of the most popular activities in our Library Makerspace this year, and we needed filament refills in order to keep designing and creating! Students are working hard to master the techniques and use the 3D pens to bring their designs to life.

Students love using the 3Doodler Start pens to bring their ideas to life as 3D-printed models. They learn how to apply the design process of imagining, designing, creating, and revising to improve their techniques with this innovative tool. My students are learning how to express themselves creatively while learning 21st-century skills, applying creative thinking, and using technology in innovative ways to solve problems and bring their designs to life.

Thank you for giving my students the tools they need to learn in a meaningful way as they investigate design concepts and make discoveries that support their understanding and learning, while collaborating with their peers. These materials will benefit students in my school for years to come. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

  • Let's Read Some Boooooks!

    Funded Oct 18, 2024

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the collection of new fall and Halloween books, which you generously donated to my students for our elementary Library Media Center.

As I continue to work on updating our Library Media Center into a 21st century space for students to collaborate and learn, updating our library's book collection is a priority.

Putting out displays of books for monthly themes and holidays is one way I highlight books for students, and introduce them to new books and characters. Students love to browse the special displays! Our Halloween and Fall Holidays collection of books was very aged and didn't include many newer books and characters that students enjoy. These new books flew off the display shelf throughout October and my youngest students were thrilled to explore these new book choices! I had to keep the display out through November so everyone had a chance to borrow and read these books!

Thank you for giving my students books that they will enjoy and that will motivate them to read. So many students will get to enjoy these books as they are now a part of our library collection! Thank you for helping to foster my students' love of reading!”

As I continue to work on updating our Library Media Center into a 21st century space for students to collaborate and learn, updating our library's book collection is a priority. The books you provided will give students the opportunity to read and learn about important concepts of civics, government and elections.

These books will improve our social sciences section and provide more accessible and interesting choices for our young readers. Thank you for giving my students books that will motivate them to read and to explore new books in our library. So many students will get to enjoy these books! • Tech & Innovation in Our Library Makerspace

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the Apple iPad and case, which you generously donated for my students to use in our elementary Library Makerspace. This amazing technology provides students with opportunities to learn to code and program our robots, create designs for our 3D printer, and make green screen videos to share their learning!

Beyone STEM apps and projects, the iPad will also be used with our Library Novel Effect subscription for sound effects and soundscapes to accompany read alouds -- a favorite of my students!

In the past few weeks 4th grade students have started meeting for a new 3D printing elective and our Robotics Team is starting up - the iPad is ready to go with the apps students will use to have meaningful learning experiences!

Thank you for giving my students this amazing resource and opportunity. The Apple iPad will be used by countless students for years to come. Thank you for caring about my students' education and fostering the imaginations and skills of the innovators of tomorrow!”

This is my 21st year in my district, and my 4th year as the Library Media Specialist in our amazing elementary complex Library Media Center (after 12 years in the classroom and 5 years as an instructional coach). I continue to work to restore and update our library into a 21st century library media center / learning hub--updating our books and space, adding ebooks and other innovative resources to the library, and creating an Innovation and Maker Space for ALL students to access. I work with students in our four elementary schools, primarily grades 1-4. Our students are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities, despite the challenges that they face outside of the classroom. Our students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.
