  • Keeping the Spark of Learning Alive With Paper Circuits

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the books and materials needed to learn about and create circuits, which you generously donated to my students. These materials made it possible for some of my students to continue to engage in STEM exploration during remote learning.

Paper circuits was an ideal project to create remote learning kits for. After a few lessons on circuitry basics, the students involved in this project were excited to explore circuits more in-depth. They created several paper circuit projects using the copper tape, batteries, and LEDs--finding ideas and templates for projects in the books and online. Students demonstrated independence and persistence as they worked on their projects. They were eager to share their projects with each other and receive feedback.

This project will continue to be part of our STEM curriculum next year, when even more students will engage in exploration about circuitry through the books and materials. Students will collaborate with each other to learn, plan, and bring their ideas to life. Students will develop essential 21st century skills, such as communication and collaboration, as well as critical thinking and problem solving, that our future STEM innovators and leaders need.

Thank you for giving my students the tools they need to learn in a meaningful way as they investigate concepts, make discoveries that support their understanding and learning, while collaborating with their peers. Thank you for giving them the opportunity to have a creative voice in their learning. Of course, these resources, and your generosity, will continue to impact more students for years to come! Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hubert

  • Even More Headphones for Success in Remote Learning

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the headphones that you generously donated to my students to use during remote learning. These headphones were given to first- and second-grade students during supply pickups for learning at home.

Needless to say, this was a challenging school year, being fully remote for the majority of the year (and full year for many students). Our first-graders used Chromebooks for the first time, and teachers worked hard to reach every child over Zoom. One barrier was students being able to hear and speak clearly, and as soon as they received their new headphones we noticed a big improvement in student focus and engagement. They were able to tune out background noise and distractions and listen to their teacher. Since these headphones have microphones, teachers were able to hear their students more clearly. This also helped students effectively use our digital platforms like Seesaw and language programs in which they need to record their voices.

There was much frustration and productive struggle during remote learning, but to remove this barrier and provide students equitable access to hear and speak to their teachers was a major success, and we can't thank you enough for helping to make this happen!

Thank you for giving my students the tools they need to be successful in remote learning. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

  • Seeing Double for Remote Teaching

    Funded Nov 15, 2020

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the monitor, adapters and cable, which you generously provided to me and my students for remote teaching.

We quickly learned that a second monitor is not just helpful, but an essential component of a remote teaching setup. It is absolutely necessary to see students on Zoom while also sharing my screen with a lesson, website, etc. This is also critical when I am teaching teachers how to use digital platforms and modeling for them how to best work with their own students while teaching remotely.

Needless to say, it has been a challenging school year, but having the second monitors has made working virtually much easier and more productive. Thank you for giving me and my students the tools we need to be successful in remote learning. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

  • A Bubble Bonanza for Our STEM Program!

    Funded Mar 26, 2019

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for Bubble Bonanza STEM engineering kit from Engineering is Elementary, which you generously donated to my students. These materials have created opportunities for my students to learn in new and exciting ways, through hands-on discovery and invention.

The Bubble Bonanza Kit was a favorite among students in my STEM Challenge group this past year. Through inquiry and investigation, students explored how bubbles behaved, and they applied the Engineering Design Process to create new bubble wands.

During our STEM Challenge group, students learn and apply the Engineering Design Process, as they work in groups to imagine new ideas, build models, investigate concepts, make discoveries, and develop their own understandings. The Bubble Bonanza STEM Engineering Kit gave students the chance to work with unique building materials as they create and build their own designs for bubble wands. Wonderful teachable moments have arisen as students learn how to collaborate and communicate through fun, creative, realistic activities. Students are having fun learning!

Thank you for giving my students the tools they need to learn in a meaningful way as they investigate concepts, design and build build their own innovative models, and make discoveries that support their understanding and learning, while collaborating with their peers. I look forward to doing this project with future groups of students, and so these materials will benefit students in my school for years to come. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

  • Coding Around Town With Sphero

    Funded Jul 3, 2019

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the two Sphero Code Mats and terrain park accessories, which you generously donated to my students. These materials will allow my students to participate in innovative learning experiences and make connections between coding and real-world situations.

As we work to integrate the MA Computer Science standards into classroom instruction in the elementary grades, it is tools like the Sphero robots that will illustrate to teachers how coding can be a part of content instruction, as well as provide engaging learning experiences for students. Students will learn and work together to apply basic coding concepts as they program Sphero robots to follow the path around the town, applying concepts like map skills and geography, and developing communication skills as they work together to create their program. Math skills are also reinforced as they count blocks and measure distances.

Working on coding and robotics activities provides students with opportunities to collaborate and communicate, to persevere towards a challenging goal, to take risks and continually revise their thinking, all while experimenting with new technology--and they are eager to do it! I have seen such engagement and motivation among student working on programming tasks, and best of all, they are developing skills that they will be able to apply to future learning and careers, as the next generation of innovators and engineers!

Thank you for giving my students the technology they need to learn in a meaningful way as they work together to learn coding and programming concepts. The experiences that you are making possible for my students by giving them these coding resources will spark their innovative spirit--I can't wait to hear about what they are doing in a few years! At the same time I will continue to be excited about introducing new groups of students to our robots and to the world of coding, as these resources will impact students for years to come. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

  • Remote Teaching With High-Quality Video & Audio

    Funded Aug 24, 2020

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the webcam, microphones, ring light and accessories for recording and streaming video lessons, all of which you generously provided to me and my students.

With these tools, I have been able to produce video lessons for students and professional development trainings for teachers with much higher quality audio and video. It definitely makes a difference, especially when students' internet connections are not consistent and their devices do not always have fully working speakers. When the audio in my lessons is consistently clear, it is easier for them to participate.

Since the start of our school year, we have been in a remote learning model. I go from Zoom to Zoom to work with teachers and students, troubleshoot students' tech issues, teach lessons in small groups, and model remote teaching strategies for teachers using our digital platforms. Many teachers have noticed the improvement in my audio and video quality, and it makes it much easier to interact with students when I know they can hear and see me clearly.

Needless to say, it has been a challenging start to the school year, but having these tools has made my virtual work easier than in the spring, since I don't have to troubleshoot my own sound and video issues. Thank you for helping to remove this barrier and provide these resources. Certainly, when we are back in the classrooms with students, they will enjoy using the audio and video equipment as well!

Thank you for giving me and my students the tools we need to be successful in remote learning. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”

  • More Headphones for Online Learning Success

    Funded Aug 24, 2020

It is with deep gratitude that I write to thank you for the headphones, which you generously donated to my students to use for their remote learning. Headphones are an in-demand item right now so I had to search for some replacements and wait for them to arrive, but once they did we were able to distribute them to our first-grade students along with some other supplies for learning at home.

Needless to say, it has been a challenging start to the school year, while we are fully remote. Our first-graders are using Chromebooks for the first time, and teachers are working hard to reach every child over Zoom. This also helps students effectively use our digital platforms like Seesaw and language programs in which they need to record their voices.

There has been frustration and productive struggle over these first few weeks of remote learning, but to remove this barrier and provide students equitable access to hear and speak to their teachers is a major success, and we can't thank you enough for helping to make this happen!

Thank you for giving my students the tools they need to be successful in remote learning. Thank you for caring about my students' education!”
