  • Moving Mindfully

    Funded Oct 18, 2021

Thank you for gifting us the tools we need to move mindfully while at school. The items listed in this project have made each social emotional learning session fun, interactive and continues to provide students an opportunity for hands on learning. As a result of your kindness and generosity my students have the opportunity to explore sound, connect breath with movement while using props. The tools in this project that you helped bring to life has ensured that each student has a great time learning tools of resilience and emotional regulation, skills they need to thrive in life. Via participation in this program the students are gaining solid social emotional learning skills and are developing their ability to understand and express their emotions,”

  • SEL for Equity

    Funded Mar 31, 2021

I would like to thank you for generously donating to my project. As a result of our generosity I was able to create at home workbooks for my students to practice the social emotional learning skills we discussed virtually. These resources allowed me to print, laminate and mail resources that students can read along with me while we are engaged in virtual SEL sessions. I found that the children needed a tool that they could hold in their hand and look at as they followed along in our discussion. Most of the SEL programs have a one size fists all model these tools allowed me to tailor my sessions based on the individual needs of each student I support.”

    Ms. Torres

  • Mindful Reading

    Funded May 4, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations. As a result my SEL room has literature full of age appropriate and culturally responsive text. I use the text during read aloud during small group counseling sessions or work with the text during individual sessions with students. Children are also aloud to sit in the reading nook and read any text they desire based on interest and mood.

One of the most popular text is listening to my body. This book is a guide to helping kids understand the connection between their sensations (what the heck are those?) and feelings so that they can get better at figuring their needs. As a result the children have been able to build on their capacity to engage more mindfully, self-regulate, and develop emotional resilience.

I find that this text as well as other in this project have really made the topic of understanding and regulating emotions easy for children to grasp.

Thank you so much for helping build our library.”

  • Help Me Teach My Little Flowers to Smell the Roses

    Funded May 6, 2020

As a result of your generosity my students will be able to engage in trauma sensitive yoga in a fun way. Yoga has changed the way I experience the world. Gifting students with these skills will support their ability to navigate life with confidence and grace.

I am so excited to share all that I learn with them.

    Be well and stay safe”

  • I See Me Calm, Caring and Mindful

    Funded Sep 6, 2019

I am reaching out to thank you for gifting my students with calm. As a result of your generosity at least 450 elementary school children are learning how to regulate their emotions.

We do this via stories, art and craft projects, breath work, mindfulness meditation, and yoga.

The opportunity to share these strategies with students has had a positive impact on their learning as well as their socialization. Children learn best by doing.

Thank you for gifting my students with calm.

    Happy Holidays”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Torres

  • Growing Through Play

    Funded May 12, 2019

We received our package on Tuesday 5/21/19. The children were super excited to get started growing their minds right away. As the school social worker I have the privilege of working with students individually and in small groups. The growth mindset activities that you provided exceeded our expectations.

I am now able to provide students with their very own growth mindset journal. Which made them smile as I typically have to make copies and put the black and white work sheets in a folder. The spiral bound journals are a hit as the children are now able to look at visually interesting pages. I plan to send the journals home with the children for summer vacation so they can continue working on developing a deeper understanding of the power of yet.

The puzzles are just challenging enough that the children have to think of the best response without becoming frustrated.

Lastly the question cards are just what I needed to support students in starting conversations with each other during small group work.

We really appreciate your kindness and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Torres

  • Teaching Student and Teacher Wellness

    Funded Oct 23, 2018

The Breathe For Change ChangeAgent program has been an investment in my school community's future success. I am gaining a highly personalized experience, as a ChangeAgent which is an important component in my community of change.

As a result of the programs attentiveness to my individual experiences, skill sets, and aspirations I was able to craft a transformational learning experience which optimized my ability to cultivate social change in my school community.

As a result of the Breathe For Change pedagogy -which focused on yoga, meditation, and SEL*F - I have been equipped with the tools and support to effectively lead transformational change. The Transformational Leadership tools I am gaining through the ChangeAgent program is empowering me to succeed in my school setting where social-emotional learning competencies, impact data, the ability to harness and communicate effectively about both will become increasingly important.

The Breathe For Change ChangeAgent Coaching and Leadership Development Program has not only provide me with coaching and leadership tools that are needed to drive systemic change, but also develop my facilitation skills, build my content knowledge and instructional delivery of social-emotional learning standards.

On behalf of my school community I wanted to reach out to you and say THANK YOU. We have been busy these past months learning how to use the SEL skills we learned during yoga club in all areas of our life.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Torres

  • New York City Elementary School Students Breathe for Change

    Funded Oct 15, 2017

I apologize for my delay in following up with you.

I have been elated since graduation from my 200hr yoga teacher training with Breath For Change. As you know back in November I applied and was accepted into the program and I must admit I never really expected my life to shift as dramatically as it has as a result of deepening my yoga and meditation practice.

I spent 4 months, 16 days and 200 hours immersed in all things yoga. I delved deeply into the study of me. As a result of the training I learned meditation, philosophy, anatomy, Asana sequencing and social emotional learning facilitation.

Meditation study and practice helped me to unleash my full brilliance using B4C's neuroscience-backed approach. Philosophy study taught me powerful yogic principals to life for myself and my students. Anatomy helped me to connect more deeply with my body and gain tools for physical health. Asana helped me to deepen my personal yoga practice and learn to teach yoga to all ages. Lastly, SEL*F helped me become a champion of social-emotional learning for students and my colleagues.

I was pushed physically and mentally beyond my comfort zone. I was challenged emotionally to consider how my ways of being were limiting me from reaching my full potential.

During the program I began to feel the shift and now that I have completed the program I am so amazed by all the wonderful opportunities that have opened due to my change in perspective.

I truly appreciate your love and support in helping me reach my financial goal. As a result of your generous gift the students and staff have benefited from weekly Asana and meditation practices. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to watch mind's transform.

I owe you a world of thanks.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Torres

No matter what grade or age, developing a growth mindset is one of the most important tools we can learn. Life is about learning from our mistakes and learning how to solve problems. This project will provide a library of books and games to share with students and other classes that provide opportunities for conversation and classroom culture building. This project provides resources for developing and encouraging life long learning and growth mindsets. In order to learn about growth mindset, students need to read/listen to multiple examples in books, talk about growth/problems with their peers, and engage in games to make it joyfully come alive. Today, students see images of perfection everywhere and strive to not make mistakes, whether it be on tests, in relationships, or seeing "perfection" in the media. I want students to learn that mistakes happen and it is what we do we those mistakes that make the difference. This project can provide a starting point for our kids.
