Punch This!
Funded Oct 22, 2019Thank you so much for the new electric hole punch. I find that both the students in my class and I are using the hole punch daily. I use it to put holes in all of the papers that they need to keep. Some of my students prefer to keep quizzes/tests and are using it to put holes in them to keep their binder organized. I even have been letting them organize the binders of their other classes if they finish their work early. Access to this device has allowed this to happen with speed and ease. There is no more wrestling with my old hole puncher when it gets stuck with a load of 5-10 papers that are stuck in it.
I'm hoping in the future to be able to streamline organization with this by requiring an interactive binder that will help the students stay organized and will help them to access the materials easily.
Again thank you so much for your donation.”

Connecting to Latin!
Funded Oct 25, 2018Thank you so much for your donation. The Museum in the Classroom event went excellent. We were able to include almost 300 students within the two day time frame in 3 teacher's classes. The students enjoyed getting up close and personal with a variety of replica artifacts that they would not normally have encountered so close. They would have had to visit about 7 museums, including both the Louvre and Vatican museums to see the real life statues.
The students also really enjoyed the section of the presentation on the Roman army. A few lucky participants were chosen to wear the chain mail armor and they were beyond thrilled. It really conceptualized for a lot of them why they should care about Ancient History and Latin class. Thank you so much.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018Thank you so much for your donation of the Eggspert Egg Buzzers. These extra buzzers make my students want to learn and know information. My students enjoy using them for every day questions as well as using them in competition. I use it mostly as a formative assessment to see with what aspects of Latin the students are struggling. This is able to tell me what I have to review and what they already know. Also, with the increase in buzzers, it tells me, who in particular gets it because everyone can either have their own buzzer or share in a pair. My students love using these with Jeopardy the best and love competing for extra credit points or pencils. The buzzers have helped me reach more of my population with the growing class sizes and I am greatly appreciative for them.”

Funded Mar 29, 2017Thank you so much for the donation of the buzzer system and dice sets. They have increased the attention and learning of my students exponentially. The students that have struggled the most to be engaged in Latin are the ones that have benefited from the buzzers the most. I have used these buzzers, while playing group jeopardy and other games. The students are very enthused to know the answer so that they can buzz it in.
The dice that were donated have been used to do mathematical squares. The students enjoy doing math facts when they have to use the dice and it has kept them involved as well.
Thank you for your donation.”

Funded Dec 27, 2013Thank you so much for your very generous donation to our school. My students, before this donation, had books that were in some cases over 15 years old. They were first in awe that they now have new books with no writing in them. They also were so excited that these books were about real individuals and their contributions to Rome. They are amazed at how interesting the stories are and they are not complaining about translating, which in a middle school Latin class is the norm.
In our class we are using the books to create posters and teach the other class members about the important contributions that these young people made to society. The students will begin by discovering new English vocabulary through derivatives. Then they will translate and analyze the plot as well as the grammar of the translation. From there they will create a visual, either a poster, PowerPoint, or website, that will demonstrate their new knowledge of the English vocabulary, their understanding of the plot, understanding of the grammar, and then an evaluation of the characteristics that their young person had and how these characteristics formed their actions. Then the students will present their posters to the class and discuss the aspects mentioned above.
By teaching characteristics of young individuals that helped to form the society, I believe my students will have gained a connection between Roman history and their own lives. Some may even have internalized the character development and will be thinking about the consequences and benefits of their actions. I think by having books in which I can further develop their grammar at the same time as making the subject relatable will increase my student interest, which will naturally boost the learning of the classroom.
Thank you again for all you have done to make this possible.”
