We Need to Get That Paper
Funded Jul 17, 2021I am so thankful to all of you for your thoughtful donations. This project allowed me to get paper, laminating pouches, velcro dots, pencil cases, and Clorox wipes for our classroom. These items allowed me to start the school year off right! I have printed, printed, printed, and laminated, laminated, and laminated some more to make resources and materials for my students to access the general education curriculum in our special education classroom. The wipes allow us to stay safe and disinfected and the students have loved taking ownership of cleaning their own areas and supplies. Thank you again for supporting my class. I appreciate you so very much.”

Funded Apr 29, 2021I am so thankful for our sensory items. The day I revealed our new "Sensory Center," the class went wild. They were so excited and definitely wanted to dive right in. I showed them how to use each item and could tell they were thrilled. I added sensory breaks to our daily schedule. I can tell you that I saw a real difference in our special class. The students showed more engagement during learning activities that happened after our sensory time. For students who struggled with focusing I was able to give them one of the fidget monsters to hold in their hand to help them focus their energy and attempt their given task or assignment. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and I hope you will continue to support us.”

Funded Sep 21, 2020Because my students are in a self-contained class it was decided that they would benefit from being in person 5 days a week. This poses many challenges and difficulties. Our school was not provided with dividers/partitions to help keep students apart, but your donations and thoughtfulness through this project allowed us to get them. You also helped provide each student with multiple personal hand sanitizers that they keep in their desks. I don't know that I can fully explain the uncertainty and fear that teaching during this pandemic brings, but I am so glad to have these supplies to help. Thank you so very much and I hope you will not hesitate to help another teacher in need.”

We Want to Show What We Know!
Funded Jul 6, 2020First let me thank you again for your kindness and generosity in helping to fund this project and support my classroom. As you may or may not know, my students struggle to demonstrate their understanding of books we read due to many of the learning and speech difficulties they face. Being able to adapt books using the materials we received from this project has given them a starting point and such a boost of confidence. They are able to show me what they know. They now look forward to our reading time.
I can vividly recall sitting with a student to read a book about school. He was able to identify objects and people in the classroom and showed so much pride in doing so. Prior to having these resources, he often sat back and did not participate during reading because he was unable to share his thinking or the connections he was clearly making, but was unable to verbally share. My teacher heart swells with pride at the gap these materials help us fill.
Going forward, I hope to create more adapted books across content areas so that they can continue to demonstrate their learning and comprehension. Thank you so much donor for your contribution to our everyday learning.”

Funded Jul 9, 2019We have been in school for a few weeks now, and we have read a number of the books we received. After reading "All My Stripes," a book about a zebra with Autism, we talked about how we are all different. The kids had a lot to say about it. Most commented that our differences make us special or unique. During the discussion one student said, "people are different like different colors and different colors make rainbows." It was one of the most profound and heartwarming things I have ever heard a child say. I am so proud of the conversations we are able to have through these books, and I am blown away by the empathy they are developing towards other students who like them are differently abled. Last week was the first time we used our pencil cases, and the kids are hooked! They love having their own materials to use everyday, and they are demonstrating responsibility and independence already! I am and will continue to be extremely grateful for your generosity, but this project has impacted me and my students in a way I never anticipated so thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Funded Nov 21, 2018Every day during our Reading Workshop time, students use the resources we received. We use them EVERY SINGLE DAY! I have seen an improvement in not only their reading and writing skills, but also their social and communication skills. Children who came into school reluctant to speak or participate are now openly sharing their voices!
Many of my students are Autistic and have some difficulty interacting appropriately with others. These games have helped them tremendously. From the beginning of the school year, I had one student in particular who preferred to "play" on his own. When I first introduced the literacy games, he chose games that allowed him to be alone. Now he chooses a friend to read and play with! These games have helped us build community and belonging.
Because I have both kindergarten and first grade students, and my first graders will be leaving at the end of the school year, I have asked them to choose their favorite literacy game. They have chosen games for incoming students that they think will be fun and engaging to new students. I am so thankful to each of you for your thoughtfulness and
generosity.”

Funded Jul 29, 2017My class of kindergarten (and first grade) special needs kiddos love our classroom and the goodies we received. On the first day of school, the kids were blown away by the bright environment you helped us create. Seeing their eyes light up, and the happiness on their faces made and still makes me so thankful for each of you.
We use the building blocks, design blocks, gears, fine motor tools, and sensory balls everyday. Some of my students have been previously identified as having problems with self-control, impulsivity, and getting along with others. However, during our choice and engineer time, I have seen such great things! They are playing with each other, sharing, building relationships, and learning all at the same time.
I send my heartfelt thanks to you once again, and I know that my kiddo thank you too. Our classroom hums and buzzes with curiosity, fun, and friendship. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
