Our school is in an urban setting, a public magnet school known for its strong academic focus that draws students from the entire city. My students are 9 and 10 years old, many with no preschool experience. A little more than half of the children qualify for free lunch and about a third do not speak English at home. We are a wonderful mix of ethnicities and socioeconomic groups all learning together.
