  • I Hear You

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

We can't say thank you enough for supporting us by donating to help us get these new headphones. The headphones are so much better than the earbuds they had, which were constantly falling out, or losing sound in one side or the other, or having inferior sound. The students are loving using their new headphones. Some students put them on just to block out other noises, even if they aren't listening to anything.

They have been especially helpful to some of the students who are easily distracted. Disturbances to each other are almost non-existent because with these headphones on, they don't hear other students who may be off task, so they are able to stay focused on their own tasks and get their work done.

With these headphones I can assign more self-directed learning because students are happy to put on their headphones on and get to work. The old earbuds, became fidget toys or distractors, especially when they didn't work correctly.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hatch

  • “TIME for NEWS” & "Story Works" Too. Reading to Learn.

    Funded Oct 11, 2019

Thank you so very much for your kind and generous donations.

We have been receiving our new magazine subscriptions for a couple of months now and the students just love them! When they see them sitting on my table they immediately want to know when they will get to start using them.

The first thing that happens when they are passed out is that the students get a few free minutes to explore and preview the entire magazine for the articles, stories and pictures. I love this because I hear excitement in the students as they share with each other what they are finding. "Whoa! Look at this on page...", "Cool, this talks about what we've just been learning about!", "I'm going to choose this story." This is proof already that these magazines are doing just what I had hoped for, providing interest and enthusiasm to read!. It is always easy to get them to do an assignment to go along with something they are interested in and that is just what these subscriptions have provided for my students, an interest. They also can't wait to take them home.

My students' most recent reading and comprehension scores show phenomenal growth and their writing stamina and quality have improved tremendously as well.

Thank you again for these wonderful subscriptions.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hatch

  • Ready? Switch! Choose Your Seat

    Funded Feb 7, 2019

My students and I would like to thank you, and give you an update on how grateful we are for your kind generosity in helping us obtain our wobble chairs. The students from all three of our fourth grade classes have had opportunities to use these chairs since we rotate for several subjects. Every student enjoys using them and they are, of course, one of the top favorite seating choices.

My class was excited from the moment they learned we would be receiving these wobble chairs. The students themselves put them together and also helped in deciding how to choose who would get to use them first. These chairs continue to be a favorite part of our classroom and many different students use them each day as we go through class rotations in our daily schedule.

I have had numerous compliments from other teachers, coaches, even substitutes and the students themselves about how well the students are able to stay on task. The wobble chairs and flexible seating have definitely helped to make a big improvement with their focus ability and work ethics because the students don't have to just sit still while seated.

Thank you again for your kind donations and helping to give us more freedom for our classroom by providing our wobble chairs.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hatch

Adding these wonderful new "wobble" chairs in my classroom will be especially beneficial for those students who need movement, even while studying and during productive work periods. They will benefit the rest of the students too because they will add alternative, fun, new seating choices and CHOICE is a big thing for kids. When students are happy with their chosen seat, they are more comfortable, focused, ready and willing to engage in the lessons. Sitting in the same chair, or even same type of chair, everyday can get uncomfortable, boring, even exhausting. When we're not comfortable, we can not really fully focus on the subject or task. In our classroom we change seats several times throughout the day. If I have not called for a change in awhile and someone needs it, they simply ask. I set the guidelines at the beginning of the year and have not had any issues with complaints even when I say they will have to wait until the next subject or assignment. Students know they will get a chance to switch. These simple choices have made a difference in work ethics and attitudes. If by chance two students arrive for the last seat of its kind I have seen students Ro-Sham-Bo (rock, paper, scissors), for it or just offer it to the other student saying "You can have it I'll just get it another time." I have even seen both offer it to each other so they end up doing Ro-Sham-Bo to see who "has" to take it now. I hope the new options will bring even more camaraderie, focus and learning.
