  • Hands-on Learning

    Funded Aug 12, 2020

Thank you for your generosity. The children love their play-doh activities. They are extremely engaged and we use it for many learning activities! We use the play-doh for literacy such as letter formation, words with stamps, making our names, and much more. The activities bring huge smiles to their faces and makes learning fun. In addition, play-doh is great for hand strength to build their muscles for writing. I cannot thank everyone enough for contributing. You all opened your hearts to my students in a time of need. Thanks you again.”

  • Social Emotional Learning

    Funded Aug 3, 2020

The pandemic has created challenges for our young learners. Kindergarten is an important year for children to learn social and emotional skills. The donations made to this project has helped me facilitate social-emotional learning even in our virtual classroom. This year, more than ever, these children need the support to understand their feelings and how to handle them. Many families are going through hardship.

The books and tools from this project allow me to give explicit instruction about emotions. We talk about what happens in the story and how it relates to them. The students have discussions about what they would have done in a situation or times they have felt that way.

I have seen social and emotional growth in the students. They are able to analyze how they feel and why they feel that way. The books allow the students to engage in scenarios even though we are not in person. The materials make all the difference for their mental health during challenging times in our world. Thank you for all the support for my kindergarteners!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Landskron

When I think about my students, social emotional learning always comes to mind. Many of the children are coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. The most important thing is for them to receive the support to thrive in emotional development and well being. We all can agree that first a child has to be emotionally well before they can engage in learning. Not only do my students experience the hardship associated with being low income, they now have a whole new circumstance to contend with—distance learning. They are dealing with all of their norms being uprooted and experiencing a lot of change. My project consists of mostly books that will support their social emotional health along with some resources for mindfulness and yoga. Read alouds are a great way to engage children in a story that is relatable to them while teaching lessons to help them navigate these trying times. In addition, I want to give my student a mindfulness skill set so they can manage their stress and anxiety. I plan to engage them in read alouds, yoga, breathing techniques, and follow up activities for the stories we are reading. One of my primary concerns is to help them manage their emotions and stress during this time. The goal is to get the children to be the best learners they can possibly be. To do that, this social emotional learning is crucial. During these times of uncertainty, I hope we can come together and support the students who need our help. I thank each and every one of you for your support.
