My students come from a small rural school district. They are content with simple resources, but truly enjoy having a variety of learning materials. My students have a total of approximately 40-50 students in their entire grade and most have been together since pre-school. It is safe to say they are very close knit, but have not had much exposure to the real world without the use of materials and resources that are provided to the classroom. Most of my students work well together because they are so close, which is why I chose to use many small group activities. They learn well from one another and sharing their ideas and strategies is one of the most important resources I have in my classroom.
