Currently in the library I have five outdated and slow moving computers and one broken computer. Our students have several programs they work with on a daily basis to help improve their basic skills, programs such as iRead and Pathblazers. Teachers struggle to find enough devices to rotate through students on to meet the daily needs of students and often students are working on these programs in the library. The library doesn't have any iPads or Chromebooks, just five super slow computers to offer so the addition of iPads would be a whole new world for us! I help run the morning news and have been helping students learn to make their own morning videos on Apple's movie program, iMovies. Having even five iPads would give students the ability to research on the catalog, work on the morning news, plus faster (and working) technology for iRead and Pathblazers. Without technology in the library I am unable to do many hands-on and creative lessons such as incorporating Ozmos and fun learning activities. Currently I have not been able to successfully introduce database research skills because our computers are limited, with iPads I would be able to demonstrate to students and then allow them hands-on exploration! There are so many ways these could improve and expand student learning.
