Magazine Fun!
Funded Nov 16, 2018Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. The students and I love the Scholastic Magazines as a reading supplement and the timer is so helpful to us throughout the day. We utilize these gifts each week! We also received a color selected timer that helps students work independently in their learning groups. The students love this timer so much and remind me when I forget to turn it on. Especially one boy who is very set in his routines, this timer helps them transition from one activity to the next.
As an educator is it difficult to always spark student interest. When I requested these non fiction Scholastic classroom magazines I was thinking of my students' interests'. They really love to read about non-fiction. The magazines are good for prompting students to read independently to each other. This program also offers a technology component that lets students watch videos on the topic, build vocabulary, play games about the topics and even provides teacher resources to enrich and build student knowledge on different nonfiction topics that pertain to the curriculum. Students are also able to use the articles to learn how to ask and answer questions about text to build on their reading comprehension skills. These magazines also enrich student learning of main idea and details. We have been working on identifying the main idea of each magazine and give supporting details.
Also being a special educator, means that you make learning individualized for each student. These magazines are good resources and starting points for building different lessons based on the abilities of each student. Reading for each student looks different. Some students are able to read independently to each other and other students enjoy the technology part that reads the magazine to them. I am able to put some students on the computer to listen to the magazine with headphones at their own speed. This is an excellent part of the magazine readers.
My students particularly love the science spin where they can also conduct experiments. Enclosed in our pictures some of my students really loved the magazine where we did the experiments with light. I brought in a flashlight so we could learn about the features of light. They were very excited and they remember these special learning experiences.
Thank you so much for the beautiful donations to our learning environment.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Goffredo
