  • South Brooklyn Freedom Readers

    Funded Nov 24, 2018

Thank you so much for bringing our Reading Buddy book drive to life in an impressively short period of time! Because of your generous donations our class was able to deliver the shipment of new books to our buddies two days before our winter break. The joy brought to all was absolutely incredible to witness! Our young buddies were so excited to get their favorite books that they did not have in their classroom library such as the Knuffle Bunny series, Pete the Cat, and holiday themed books. It was a wonderful way to culminate our service experience as a class, bringing the gift of reading with high interest books to the students we had been working with all semester.

Not only were our young reading buddies happy to receive their new books, their older buddies learned the power of doing acts of kindness for others and that they can make anything possible with hard work and dedication. It is my hope that they take this experience with the help of your donation forward into their lives after graduation to continue a life of service to others.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kelley Wolcott

  • Stop a Bookless Class from Drying Like"A Raisin in the Sun"!

    Funded Jan 3, 2010

I want to offer my most sincere apologies for the delayed response, this letter should have posted in June , but failed to for one reason or another. I still wanted to make sure that you are properly thanked for the impact that your gift had in my classroom, I am pleased to say that, because of your generosity, our students were enormously successful on their challenging state exam, the English Regents. All scores increased overall and over 80% passes, many of which students have special needs or were English Language Learners. All students loved the play and still tell me how they miss acting it out in class every day!”

I want to offer my most sincere apologies for the delayed response, this letter should have posted in June but did not for one reason or another. But I definitely want to make sure that you are properly thanked for the impact that your gift had in my classroom. I am pleased to say that, because of your generosity, our students were enormously successful on their doozy of a state exam. All scores increased overall and over 80% passed, many of which students with special needs and English Language Learners. All students fell in love with the book and still reminisce on the friendship of George and Lenny to this day!”

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

As I'm sure you can already see from the pictures, my students are ecstatic to have a brand new classroom set dictionaries to use as a resource while they read. The days of "I don't understand." "Miss what is this word?" and "Miss how do you spell ________?" have gone the way of the dinosaurs in my classroom. Many of my student have become empowered by learning that such a basic resource can help them to develop vocabulary and enhance comprehension without having to use the help of adults to translate what they read for them. Some students are even reading the dictionary for fun! Thank you again for helping my students to appreciate the English language in a new way while expediting the process of developing them into more fluent and sophisticated readers and writers! ”

    With gratitude,

We strive to create rich, meaningful real world, project based learning experiences that help students to embrace the importance of education and preparing for college and the workplace.
