Literacy, Math, and STEAM, Oh My!
Funded May 16, 2018Let me start by saying thank you so much for your generosity. It is so humbling to have the support from people like yourself. We have had an excellent time exploring the new resources. Having the amazing resources to manipulate in stations has taught us so much already.
When my kiddos saw the materials they were so excited. I was introducing all the new materials they would be using in their literacy and math stations. They were clapping, jumping up and down, and smiling so big, I was afraid their face was going to tear! HA HA HA! Their math and literacy centers are amazing. They are developmentally appropriate, and engaging.
Currently in our classroom we are learning about apples, and the season of fall. Yesterday we had a chance to make apple sauce. Let me say, the students are excellent cooks! We are hoping to set up a trip to Gilcrease Orchard. It is a local farm out here in wonderful Las Vegas.
Thanks again for your support. It means the world to us! You are amazing!”

Funded Sep 3, 2018When I saw that this project was fully funded, it literally brought tears to my eyes. This project means so much to me, and for you to come together, and donate to such an important cause makes me so happy. Thank you.
I am currently storing all the materials from this project in my classroom closet. When a student in need comes to me, I put a little care package together for them and send them on their way. It is very discreet. I never want the students to feel embarrassed. They are very appreciative that I have this available to them.
As of right now, I am looking at options of companies I can partner with to help some of the families at our school. We are also currently doing a peanut butter drive at our school. This peanut butter will be donated to the local food back here in Las Vegas.
Thanks again for your support. You are absolutely incredible!”

Funded Jun 23, 2018This project has been an absolute blessing in our classroom. We have had the chance to get away from the traditional style of classroom seating. Thank you to all that made this project come to life. The "comfy corner" is one of the most sought after areas in the room. The students get to read and use the pad in the comfy corner.
My students first saw the materials when they came to meet the teacher night. They were ecstatic that the classroom had cute fun size furniture. Every single one of them sat in the comfy corner, and raved about how cool their classroom is.
Our class has bonded so much in the last couple of weeks. We are a close knit group. Right now we are studying apples and the season of fall. We are trying to put together a field trip so they can visit an orchard. We are having so much fun.
Thank you again for your generosity. You have made my students educational experience so special. Much love to you.”

It's a Wonderful Day for I Teach K!
Funded May 23, 2018Thank you so much for supporting me! I am so excited for tomorrow! It is the first day of I Teach K! I am going to learn so many amazing things from the most prestigious educators around. Without you, I would not have had the opportunity to attend this amazing event.
The highlight of this event is definitely listening to amazing educators, and getting fresh and innovative ways to teach different standards in my classroom. They also have a huge expo shopping center. It's like Christmas in July for me, LOL!
I am really looking forward to learning how to incorporate STEM into my classroom. I am taking 5 different sessions in STEM. Thank you again! You are amazing!”

Funded Jan 26, 2018Let me start by saying thank you from the bottom of my heart! This project has done so much to simplify our library! Unfortunately the bookshelf we originally wanted to order was no longer available, but we were able to substitute a really cool cube bookshelf. We have the books organized by level, from emergent text to chapter books.
When my students saw the materials, they were excited because they knew library time would be much more organized. It has made it so much easier for my students to choose the right books that correlate with their level!
We are going to continue to use the library as a literacy station. Some of my students are taking AR tests, and working towards a reading goal. Thanks again for helping me simplify our library! It is truly an amazing thing to watch the students develop a love of reading!”

Funded Mar 30, 2018First let me start by saying how grateful I am for having such a great support system! You guys truly made this one of the best projects ever! This project was such a success! Every single butterfly hatched. They were all healthy, and made it out in to the real world!
When we first got the larvae, they were so small. It was so incredible to watch them grow in to big fuzzy caterpillars. They eventually turned in to a chrysalis, and after waiting 9 days, they turned into beautiful painted lady butterflies!
The students were so excited throughout the whole butterfly life cycle. They were infatuated with the fact that something so small can grow into a beautiful butterfly! This has ignited such a love of science in my students. Right now we are studying the plant life cycle. We are growing Lima beans. Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to study butterflies! It has been such an amazing experience.”

Funded May 25, 2017Let me start by saying, WOW! I am so humbled by your generosity! It warms my heart to know that there are wonderful people like you in our world. When I showed the students all the new goodies we received they were so excited. That type of excitement lets me know the children will be excited to learn new concepts.
Currently, we are using the items from the grant to help us understand all the wonderful things we need to learn in kindergarten to get ready for first grade. The students absolutely love the Kindle Fires. We are using them to read stories, as well as complete our QR code center. The QR code center is fun for them because it is always a surprise when they scan the card to see what task comes up. The lock center is a hit too! I love watching them work so hard to find the right key for the lock. It is rigorous, and it requires high cognitive demand for my diverse learners.
We have a lot of exciting things coming up in our classroom. As of right now we are learning about reindeer. The kids are doing research on the Kindle Fires. They are so excited to share the new information they have added to their schema.
Thank you again for your support. It means the world to my class and I.”

Teaching Tolerance in Kindergarten, 1 Letter at a Time!
Funded Aug 5, 2017Let me start by saying, WOW! I am so humbled by your generosity! It warms my heart to know that there are wonderful people like you in our world. When I showed the students all the new goodies we received they were so excited. That type of excitement lets me know the children will be excited to learn how to be accepting of others, and non- judgmental.
Currently, we are using the items from the grant to teach us about different countries, and cultures. The students absolutely love the camera! We are using the camera to take pictures to send to our pen pals. The kids look forward to receiving the letters, as well as sending them to our friends.
We have a lot of exciting things going on in our classroom. We are learning about Christmas around the world. We just completed our tour of Sweden. We learned all about St. Lucia Day which is celebrated today, December 13th. The boys carry star wands, and the girls have candles on their heads (fake ones). They also wear all white, but we are a uniform school so we had to stick to our standard student attire.
Thank you again for your support. It means the world to my class and I.”

Funded Dec 18, 2016First off, I want to say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for being so generous. Your support means so much to our classroom. The impact your donation makes is amazing. The resources we received have helped these kiddos so much. We use the materials in our literacy station time. It is exciting to see the kids learning while having so much fun.
When we opened the box of station materials the kids were so excited. I literally had kids drop to their knees and put their hands on their cheeks when they saw the new puzzles, hot dot cards, and play-doh cards. I love that they get so excited about school and learning.
Just to give you an idea of what is happening in our classroom at the moment, we are studying the life cycle of butterflies. We received a Hungry Caterpillar felt retell story board in this donation. The kids have been taking turns retelling the story using the new story board. This activity is great for my English language learners. It gets them talking, and using expressive language.
Thanks again for your support. It's because of you that my kids get an opportunity to learn the academic foundations in a fun and effective way!”

Ms. W's Future Writers of America
Funded May 4, 2016I want to start off by saying thank you so much for caring about our classroom, and donating these valuable reading and writing materials! It is because of you that we are able to have fun while learning to read (readers theater) and write ( writing center, and blank books). My students were so excited when they saw the new materials!
My students and I have been using the writing center during stations. We use it during small group, and it helps us organize our thoughts while we are learning about different types of writing. The students favorite writing seems to be opinion writing.
My students and I also use the readers theater box during circle time. The readers theater box contains short plays that we can act out with our puppets. In our picture, we were performing the play, Show and Tell. Not only is the readers theater box of goodies fun, but it helps the students practice their sight words, as well as decode words using letter sounds.
The next step in our writing project is to write our very own book about our favorite animals. We are going to use the blank books you donated, and publish our very own book. We will invite our parents to come to the publishing party so they can enjoy our writing.
Thank you again for being so generous and supporting our classroom. It is a wonderful feeling to know that we have people who care about our students, and want them to succeed!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Nigro
