  • Learning by Doing: It's the Name of the Game

    Funded Sep 26, 2011

Your generous donation has had such a positive impact on my students and their learning! We received 16 different games that covered 4 different core subjects. My students were so excited when the boxes arrived. It felt like Christmas to receive such wonderful resources! They immediately began opening the games and reading the rules to play. I've never seen them so enthusiastic about learning before. They got into groups with their peers and worked cooperatively to set the games up.

I teach students with special needs who struggle learning grade level concepts. Before the games arrived, my students worked with an assistant on reviewing skills. Now they are engaged in learning the same skills through hands-on games! What a difference in their focus and attitude. They happily go to groups, knowing they get to play games every day. In addition, they are learning cooperation and how to follow rules.

Your incredible donation of games for my class has touched us greatly. In today's economy, it's heartening to know that generous people like you still support our schools. You have greatly impacted the lives of my class and future classes through your kindness. I am touched by your thoughtfulness and thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Weimer

  • Concentration Station

    Funded Aug 9, 2011

Thank you for funding my Concentration Station project! I can't express how much this station has positively impacted learning in my classroom! Finally, students who need a place to work quietly have a station that meets any needs they might have; all in one place! When one of my students has difficulty focusing during class instruction, he or she can choose to go to this station and continue working. No more time-outs where students sit somewhere quiet and do nothing! Now, they can sit on a chair ball that accommodates movement, use a weighted lap pad that calms their body, and write on a slant board that helps improve fine motor skills. They are still part of the learning environment where a visual timer lets them see how much time they need to continue working. I am no longer interrupted by students asking how much work time is left. This a wonderful station for my class to us!. Time away from distracting noises is now a positive experience!

As a veteran teacher, I never dreamed I would have this wonderful resource in my classroom! With the current budget crisis, I appreciate your donations to my class. Your support means my students will have additional opportunities to be successful learners. This means the world to me, as I know they can learn given the appropriate resources that support their individual needs. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! 37 Thank Yous to 37 people who continue to support my class with their generous donations!! ”

  • Readers, Are You Ready?

    Funded Jul 31, 2011

Amazing! Amazing! This is the word that comes to mind when I think of your generous donations to my book project! My class and I were astounded with the number of books we received through your funding. It felt like Christmas to have so many books with storage bins that tell my students the level of each book. Not only do we have leveled readers, but they are organized in a way that helps students locate the book at their reading level.

I have been frustrated for years with the lack of interesting books at lower reading levels. I teach 4th and 5th graders, many reading at a first grade level. It has been difficult trying to encourage reading with so few choices at that level. Now, they have multiple books to choose from! This has greatly impacted the amount of reading in my class! My students are browsing books daily and always find something enjoyable to read at their level. I no longer hear the words "baby books". My students can now access interesting and informative books at a level they can read. I anticipate they will demonstrate stronger reading skills because of your generous support. Thank you so much for providing my class with interesting fiction and nonfiction leveled books.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Weimer

  • Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded Aug 27, 2011

Thank you for your generous donations to my project.! My class and I were thrilled to receive the listening center and storage rack you funded. We have not had a CD player that worked properly for a long time. Our current player is over 10 years old! My students use it daily to listen to books on tape, as this helps them increase reading fluency and comprehension. Many of my 4th and 5th graders are reading far below grade level and require this support to access the curriculum. This listening center also helps me teach more efficiently by allowing one group to read independently, while I work with students who are struggling in a specific area. I also use the center as a place to go when students need to regroup or calm their minds and bodies. Generous donors like you have donated CD's that help my students relax and refocus.

I am appreciative of your kindness in choosing my class to support. Teaching children with special needs requires me to be more creative and resourceful in how I approach teaching. Frequently, I need additional resources that are not in our school's budget. Without your continued support, my students would not have resources they need to succeed in today's rigorous classroom. Youir donation is helping students now and in the future become more successful learners. Thank you for your wonderful support! ”

  • There Are Squirrels in Our Class!

    Funded Aug 3, 2011

My class and I were so thrilled to receive your generous funding. This project has made such a difference in my students' focus and learning in the classroom. The scented oils are used daily to calm or engage the class, depending on the task. I have an area of the room dedicated to calming activities. The beanbag chair and tactile cover are used in this area. My students have a sensory basket with the sensory balls, weighted pad, and vibrating snake. They can choose the tool that will help them calm their body the best. This provides them with choices and keeps these wonderful resources available at all the times. Students choose this area the most and daily utilize the sensory materials you have kindly provided.

I am very appreciative of your support of my classroom. With budget cuts, we are frequently unable to provide the additional resources needed to help our students with special needs. Your generosity has provided my class and future students the resources they need to be successful learners. I am thankful that people like you still support our schools and students. A special thanks to 37 people, who have supported multiple projects and donated an amazing amount of resources for my students. You have had an tremendous impact on their learning. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Weimer

  • How Do You Spell Relief?

    Funded Apr 6, 2011

Thank you for supporting the needs of my class. The sensory resources have had a positive effect on my students and their learning. The Mozart CDs are a valuable resource during instruction and independent work time. My students can work on art or other relaxing activities with the calming CD, yet stay focused and alert with the concentration CD. My students love music and these CDs have really helped them complete class assignments while listening to wonderful music. The metronome helps them self-regulate and adjust their internal clocks so they can become more calm and able to focus during instructional time. The scented infuser wakes up their minds during times when they need to concentrate and relaxes them during quiet activities.

These resources have been instrumental in helping my students self-regulate and recognize when their bodies and minds need to be more focused versus calm. Students with sensory processing issues need these valuable resources to learn. Thank you for supporting my class and their individual needs. We are very thankful for your generosity.”

  • Another Writing Assignment?

    Funded Apr 11, 2011

Thank you for your generous donation of writing materials for my class. Already I can see a difference in there willingness to complete written assignments. The write guides are helping my students who have difficulty staying in the lines and writing appropriate sized letters for their level. The highlighted writing paper has been a blessing for my visual learners. They can now write neatly because they see where the line spaces are located on the paper. Working math computation problems is easier now that we have paper that supports lining up digits correctly. All of these resources have been instrumental in helping my student become more successful writers and learners

Your kind donation has impacted my students greatly and future students will benefit in years to come. They are so excited to use the new materials and discover how much easier it is to attempt written tasks. It is important for my students to know that accommodating materials can be supplied even with the current budget crisis. Thank you again for your support of my classroom. We appreciate everything we have received!

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Weimer

  • Calling All Techies

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

Thank you for funding my project. It is people like you that show our students that people still care about education, even during these difficult financial times. I am so grateful for your support of my students and their special needs. They use their computer peripherals daily and appreciate headphones that are made for children. I no longer have to try to adjust headphones that are too big for my students' heads. The colored keyboards are helping them visually identify different characters. This makes it easier for them to independently complete intervention programs on the computer.

My class and I appreciate your kind support. You are ensuring they receive the tools they need to be successful in the classroom. These peripherals are used many times a day and will continue to be used by future classes. We are so appreciative of your thoughtfulness!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Weimer

  • You've Got To Move It, Move It, Move It

    Funded Mar 19, 2011

I can't express enough my gratitude for your generous donations to my class! With current budget cuts, students with special needs do not receive the additional resources they need to access the curriculum and become successful learners. The chair balls have been a wonderful addition to the classroom. My students for the first time are able to move freely in their seats without distracting others. This has led to fewer "time outs" and increased focus during instructional time. The squishy seats are helping students who need just a little wiggle room.

While we have not yet received out movement station, we are eagerly anticipating its arrival. My class is so excited to be receiving tools that will help them transition successfully between groups. We are so appreciative of your support, especially during these difficult financial times. Thank you again for letting my students see that there are people who really care about their education and supplying them with the necessary resources.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Weimer

I teach 3 and 4 year old children with special needs in a self-contained classroom. They are eager to explore their environment, while learning about the world they live in. This is their first experience in a school setting and I want to provide developmentally appropriate resources that will engage them in play.
