  • Cracking the Code

    Funded May 13, 2019

My students are very excited to learn with the supplies you helped provide! The Root robot kits have been a great success! Students are able to use block-based or text-based coding to program algorithms and even create art. While the robots come with pre-written programs, they have allowed the students a jumping off point for writing their own programs.

The students are also very excited about 3D printing supplies. 3D printing is one of the most exciting and successful projects in my classroom. Students are able to show me their creativity and personality with their designs. Right now we are printing bowling pins to use with another set of robots we have in the classroom.

Again, I would like to say thank you. My students and I appreciate your help in making the classroom more fun, inviting, and exciting!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kunz

  • Read to Code

    Funded Jun 13, 2019

I cannot express how thankful I am for your support. I know my students will be inspired, motivated, and encouraged to learn with the help of these books! I believe that learning coding can be included in every classroom, and using these books I can help my students with their literacy and their computer science skills!”

  • Turning Creativity into Reality with 3D Printing

    Funded Aug 18, 2018

I want to sincerely thank you for your generous donations. My students are excited to have the new filament to use to 3D print their projects.

The 3D filament is rolled plastic that is fed into a 3D printer and melted (like a hot glue gun). The printer prints an object a layer at a time until it finishes. Using 3D printing with my students teaches them a lot of skills. Number one- how to fail. Failing in a safe environment is essential for preparing students how to get back up, adjust, and try again. Very rarely will students print a project correctly the first time. With a printer in the room (and extra filament!) they can practice, adjust and try until they succeed.

Most of my work is with GT students, but I work with students of every caliber. Some students have struggled with learning, but when combining learning with fun, they don't struggle as much. I cannot wait until my students start using the printers!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kunz

  • Earbuds for Education!

    Funded Jan 8, 2018

Thank you so much for your support! My students were incredibly excited to receive their OWN pair of headphones. For some of these students, this is the first time they had a pair of headphones that was just for them. We had quite a rush to the front of the class when the headphones were ready to pass out. Although they were all identical, it didn't stop the students from showing their pair off!

I have to say having these headphones also helps me. We have several computer activities where the students use their devices with music and read-alouds. It can be quite loud with all of the students playing different books or on different sites. I love being able to work with small group students while the large group is working either in centers or independently.

We have used these headphones almost daily. I am excited to see the students grow with their technology and literacy skills. I can't thank you all enough for your generosity in helping my students grow.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kunz

The students grades range from first to second. They all have Chromebooks in their classroom. We have been blessed with applications and websites that aid in student learning. But . . . Have you ever heard 20+ students all listening to different read-aloud books at the same time? It can be overwhelming, for both the teacher and the student. Earbuds will enhance our literacy and math programs by allowing students to use available programs to their advantage. We currently use a website as one of our math resources. Using the read-aloud option the students are given the ability to work at their own pace, in their own way. Another website is one of our Literacy resources. It has a section of read-aloud stories to hook students into being lifelong readers and learners.
