Bringing Science and Reading to Life!
Funded Aug 7, 2014Thank you for your extremely generous donation of 50 copies of the book A PLANET OF VIRUSES. This donation will allow each student to receive a book to take home and read. My students are extremely excited to use them to learn more about viruses and can't wait for the unit to begin.
I have already incorporated some of the information from the texts into lessons and it has worked to engage students. In the next two months, we will begin using these texts as a supplement to enhance student understanding of viruses, the immune system, and vaccine development. I have no doubt that they will fully engage students and bring their level of understanding to a new level.”

Planting an Education
Funded Jun 2, 2014Thank you for your generous donations in making this project a reality. One of the labs has already been completed while the majority will be used later in the year. I know my AP Biology students appreciate the opportunity to get hands-on experiences to better learn the concepts and to practice the science skills that are emphasized in class.
Soon, we will begin using the light houses to improve the likelihood that our genetics of plants experiment will be successful. I look forward to students having the opportunity to actually watch multiple generations of one seed line grow and develop. Rather than using hypothetical situations for practicing probability and statistics, students will get to watch changes take place over time.
I cannot thank you enough for choosing this project for your donation. Having lab experiences completely change the dynamics of a science classroom and are valuable learning opportunities.”

Ms. Tysiak

Funded Jun 15, 2014Thank you for your generous donations. The document camera has really changed our classroom environment. Throughout the year, I have been able to use the camera to show exemplary student work rather than simply projecting answer keys from a computer. When explaining topics, I am able to write on a paper and face my students to watch their reactions. As opposed to facing the white board and having my back to the students, I can face them while I model procedures, explain diagrams, or practice problems. My students can actually hear what I am saying and I can watch for looks of confusion and ask clarifying questions.
The greatest benefit, however, has been the fact that the camera provides live feed to the projector. When doing labs, students can actually see what I am doing if I need to demo a step. During dissections, I can model the cuts students need to make and can point out areas of interest. Visual learners finally have the support they need during these times.
Many of my students have never experienced my classroom without a document camera. They may not realize how drastic of a difference it has created, but they do express excitement of being able to see models on the board. Most importantly, they express pride and confidence when their work is projected as an example. They feel more comfortable being asked to explain their thinking when they know that their work has been chosen to teach the class. It is for these reasons, that I express my gratitude of your generosity.”

Working Together: Wireless Tablet for Student Use
Funded Aug 29, 2012I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your generous donations to my classroom. The wireless tablet has dramatically changed my students' classroom experiences. I am no longer stuck to my desk when giving PowerPoint presentations and can, instead, walk around to ask students questions. In fact, when doing practice problems, students love being able to answer the questions on the board using the tablet.
I can't express the impact that having students engaged in classwork can have. It is imperative that they are involved in showing and explaining their work and I find it uplifting that this technology gets them excited to do so.
Thank you again for your donation.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Tysiak
