  • Strategy, Creativity, and a Bit of Aloha

    Funded Dec 16, 2019

My student community and I would like to express our deep gratitude to you for your generous donation to our classroom.

We have been able to make use of your donations immediately. Math stations are expanded as a result of the strategy games you donated. Our lessons on tuning ukuleles have been music to our ears. Students who would otherwise not have access or exposure to musical instruments have been enjoying the opportunity to make "playful noise."

Without generous donors such as yourself, we would not be able to provide such meaningful and enriching experiences to our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Science, Art, and Current Events

    Funded Oct 31, 2018

Our class has gained so much from your generous donation. We have had the opportunity to explore the Periodic Table of Elements, read every week in our Scholastic News subscription, and create using the Twisteez.

It was particularly touching to see some students who struggle to consider themselves artists have the opportunity to create with something as forgiving as wire. The joy was palpable. Many students at this age don't have the chance to utilize fine motor skills in a setting not requiring specific accuracy.

Many thanks from all of us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Build, Learn And Discover!

    Funded Nov 2, 2017

With your generous donations we have been able to build structures with creativity. Students have had the opportunity each week to explore recent topics through our new Time for Kids subscription. Additionally, our class has been using our microscopes to explore professionally-prepared slides.

Each of these diverse activities reach different students in different ways. By having choices, students engage in activities more fully, thus learning more. Choices allow then to tap into and discover their own areas of further research and discovery.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • WWW: Wiggle and Wobble While Learning!

    Funded Oct 24, 2016

We are enjoying the comfort of our wobble cushions! Thank you for your generous donations.

When we discussed what we like about having our seat cushions, students responded, "I feel like I can concentral better," and, "When I don't sit on my cushion I get tired faster. I feel like I float when I sit on my cushion chair."

As their teacher, I am pleased at how much they like their cushions. We use them all day, every day, even when we have groups and floor work.

Thank you again for your generosity. The kids are especially grateful for your thoughtfulness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Building Blocks

    Funded Mar 1, 2015

Thank you so much for your support of our classroom! We have made almost daily use of the building planks. Students have built structures, testing out support systems, as well as ramps and roller coasters, challenging the realities of Physics and learning about friction, potential energy, and kinetic energy. Sometimes what starts out as simply a desire to have fun turns into a lesson in science, and expands from there.

Students have also had to negotiate teamwork and the basic lesson of group work: sharing. Students have to share materials as well as develop cooperation and collaboration skills.

Your donations have made a noticeable difference in my students' learning experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Let's Get Current and Move!

    Funded Sep 12, 2014

Thank you for donating to our classroom! Our students celebrate each time we receive a Time for Kids package. The articles are valuable and well-written, extending our knowledge of current events and exposing us to topics we might not otherwise have an opportunity to read about.

We use the TFK magazines to develop our Close Reading skills. The exercise balls are also a big hit! Since I ordered them a little large it has worked out well to keep them partially inflated which seems to make the kids move a little more, while keeping them safe from tipping over.

We spend so much time during the day in our hard, plastic chairs. An opportunity to read fresh material and have a unique place to sit has brightened our classroom. The looks on their faces when the magazines arrive, as well as the engagement they have while they bounce a little on the exercise balls livens up our room a bit.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Learn and Grow with Non-fiction

    Funded Nov 5, 2013

My students were thrilled when they saw the boxes of books arriving. Since then they have used the books in an ongoing variety of ways:

*All students participate in our reading intervention program. Students Organized Around Reading (SOAR) is an opportunity for students to work at their level with teachers and their peers to develop their reading skills. The access to non-fiction literature sources was extremely valuable as the texts are high-interest topics.

*Students have used the books to extend and challenge themselves to analyze scientific topics of interest to them more deeply.

*Struggling readers are particularly engaged by the text. The texts challenge them to become better readers, while also supporting that endeavor with useful pictures, charts, graphs, and captions that add to their understanding of the topic.

We are so grateful for your support. I am especially grateful as your donations were personal in nature. My students were thrilled, and I was deeply touched.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson
