My high school students attend an inner city school in New York. Many of the students come from instability and lack of support from their families. All of them have the ability to succeed and make the best of their lives, but motivation is truly lacking. They deserve to have influences in their lives who help them recognize their true potentials, and put their talents into practice. With this book as an avenue for instruction, students will be able to enhance their vocabulary, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, creative, critical thinking skills, etc. while enjoying it and giving the learning real, tangible meaning. Endless ideas for activities and assessments have run through my mind, including a "write the next chapter" exercise, letter to the author activity, create your own memoir, etc. These tasks will be truly engaging and meaningful for my students as they read, "An Invisible Thread."
