  • Engineering and Modeling with 3D Printing

    Funded Oct 6, 2022

Thank you so much for providing my classroom with this 3D printer. Some students have enjoyed watching how it works. They were amazed how long it take to print items.

I have had a few students design and print an object that is useful to them. I am also in the process of printing a keychain for each student. I let the students choose from certain colors for their keychain.

Students have been exposed to 3D modeling using Tinkercad. Students are learning from their design errors such as it not being flat on the bed or not being the correct size. I am hoping I can come up with ideas to print to use in the classroom for lessons.

I hope this helps students determine which career path they want to take later on in life.

Again thank you so much for helping my students in more ways than you can imagine.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Priest

  • Science Project Based Learning

    Funded Oct 21, 2019

My students used the donated item to design and model eco-friendly houses and to build a water filter. They used the electric box cutters to make cutting cardboard a lot easier and faster. Of course, they used the gloves to keep themselves safe.

The students love using hands on items where they can be creative. They were in awe when they saw how many supplies they could choose from. It let them make decisions on their own.

Since school was cut short this year we didn't get to finish all of our fun projects. But, with the time that they did to use the items I feel that the used critical thinking. They learned what worked and what didn't.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Priest

This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Drive-In and one other donor.
One project that students will be doing year is designing and building an eco-friendly tiny house by cutting, hot gluing and taping cardboard, create furniture with card stock, toothpicks, straws, and clay. They will follow that project up with a solar oven made out of cardboard, aluminum foil, popsicle sticks, wooden dowels, card stock, pipe cleaners, and yarn. Later on when we cover the weather unit students will use cardboard to design and build a storm chaser vehicle out of the same materials as the other projects. They will also make a water filter using the rubber bands and coffee filters. Students will disassemble the Lego mini figures when we begin our human body cells unit. Safety is our main concern when doing project so student will wear gloves when cutting and gluing. Our goal this year is to encourage students to broaden their imagination on careers they could choose. By offering these experiences in Project Based Learning we hope to intrigue their interest. We want students to realize how much they impact the world at such a young age.
