  • Carts for Kids

    Funded Aug 13, 2023

This has already made the beginning of the year better for the second graders. It has allowed the students to have better access to the technology in the classroom. The cart has streamlined getting the computers in a timely manner. Students can do this independently which allows the teachers to continue to work with other students. The carts have also made the room much more organized. Clearing up the clutter of cords everwhere and creating a much more calm space for the students to learn. I am so thankful for the updates to my room.”

  • Flexible Seats, What a Treat!

    Funded Nov 3, 2022

Thank you OKSDE for funding my project. The excitement in our building with amazon shipments coming in was palatable. The materials came in and the box sat on my rug for an entire afternoon. I let it build the excitement of not knowing what the boxes contained. We opened the boxes together and the kids were so thrilled. We used the desks immediately to do work on the rug. They are using them during centers, and individual work time, we are using them to work in small groups too! It is a small detail but has opened a world of freedom for them to work wherever they please. Thank you for supporting public education.”

  • Literature for Littles!

    Funded Aug 7, 2022

You would not believe the excitement each time I pull out a new book series! You have given me the gift of excitement. Reading at a young age takes a lot of guts and these fun new series sets have given students the confidence to take on challenges and embark on a journey with some awesome characters!

I have chosen to get out a few new sets every 9 weeks to keep the engagement going strong! I love hearing the buzz about what they cannot get their hands on and what they want to read next. You have made this teacher's heart happy and brought joy and fun to 40 second-grade students! THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING PUBLIC EDUCATION!”

  • Classroom Library Worth Loving

    Funded Feb 23, 2022

I cannot express how humbled and thankful I am to get my project funded. I was able to replace items that I had purchased with my own money over the years. Those items were falling apart to the point that every time a student pulled a tub off of my bookshelf the entire shelf would fall out spilling the books. The new shelves allowed me to change the way I have my classroom library set up. I now have them set up by series. I really believe that finding a student a series that they love creates a love for reading and leaves them wanting more! As the furniture trickled in and was being put together there was palatable excitement in the air. The students have loved the new things and it has been the perfect push to get them motivated to complete the year with grit! Thank you for your dedication to public education!”

    With gratitude,

  • Life Experiences Through Literature

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

I wish I could send you a video of the excitement in my classroom as boxes of books were delivered. Public education is so underfunded in Oklahoma that it is rare for us to get anything new. The blessing of new books, which are so expensive, was such an invaluable gift.

I chose to open the boxes with the students and read the first paragraph of the first book in each series as we opened them. The anticipation was palpable as they listened to each selection.

Since adding these books to my library (which has only been 2 weeks!) the students have read and taken comprehension tests on over 30 books! I love the sounds of them chatting about what they read and trying not to spoil the ending for a friend that just started! Those sounds and that excitement has reinvigorated my passion for public education and I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to share a love of reading with this wonderful group of students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kruse

This classroom project was brought to life by Panda Cares and one other donor.
To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use recourses to get them motivated and excited about reading. The community I work in is a wonderful community that loves and supports each other. The school is thriving, but that is the only thing in our town, a school. That is both a beautiful thing and also a barrier for many as they do not get the opportunity for life experiences. I love to help my students experience the world through literature as many of them do not have the means to experience it otherwise. I know words are important and as the students become stronger readers I love to see each of them empowered by their own words and the words of other through good books. The pandemic has widened that gap for lower class students and books may be the only way they can experience the world. The books for this project will be placed in my classroom library. The classroom library has become more and more important during the pandemic because our librarian is not able to do her job, as she is subbing very frequently making the library closed. These books will be in the hands of students immediately and inspire them to keep reading and dreaming. I also have two books selected for multiple copies as I would love to use them as a whole group project.
