Having fluorescent light covers help reduce sensory overload caused by harsh fluorescent light. Our kids need rigorous structure, because of their autism. We need to laminate PECS to help with independent communication (they are non-verbal) and making schedules (helping them become more independent). Doing this requires a lot of Velcro. Timers are going to help with transitioning, as they need many reminders of when a transition is going to happen. My students' needs are all different and these items can help my team and I provide learning in a safe, fun, caring, and welcoming environment. They have different sensory needs and that is why adding kinetic sand to their environment can give them extra reinforcement when doing learning activities. The matching bears activity helps not only with pre-academic skills, but helps with their fine motor skills as well. Sight Word Swat is just a fun game to get them engaged and excited when working in groups. These groups focus on social skills (taking turns) and academics (reading sight words). Speaking of social skills, this is an area where my students struggle, that is why having more Social Skills materials, like the one on my list can help with build on that area of their learning. Lastly, we go through a lot of paper, and by having the ticket holder pouches, we can save on paper and reuse the same worksheets.
