Document Camera + Discussions = Fun in Math!
Funded Feb 5, 2018Thank you so much for the document camera. This camera has improved our geometry classroom in so many ways. We use it to help students see the relationship between geometric figures, to show them how to use rulers and compasses to create shapes and angles, to showcase student work, and to center our discussions about geometry. It is especially helpful when we use manipulatives such as geometric solids and nets for our students to see and follow along with their own manipulatives.
My high school students are also confident using the document camera to go through a problem or explain a tough concept to their peers. This is by far the most meaningful and exciting way to use the tool. My students are so excited and proud when they are asked to come up and show their work to the class!
Again, thank you so much for this gift and we truly appreciate your generosity in helping all students learn.”
With gratitude,

Interesting Books for Struggling Readers
Funded Nov 7, 2014The books that we received have made a huge impact in my classroom. My students now have a wide selection of books to read on their level. The girls were especially excited about the Judy Bloom books and the graphic novels. Many of them have read multiple books from the Judy Bloom series we received. Others have read the graphic novels and were inspired to include illustrations and comic strips in their writing.
These books are used to support students' independent reading. The Urban Assembly Institute of Math and Science stresses student choice in learning, so the students are able to read any texts they choose. Access to high interest texts of different levels has made it possible for my students with learning disabilities to fully participate in their learning and experience success. They are able to read these books and show their learning through their writing.
As a teacher, I am better able to provide supports that will help to raise my students' reading level when they have books that are accessible for them to read and comprehend independently.”
With gratitude,
