  • Color Printer

    Funded Oct 27, 2021

Thank you so much for donating the color printer to my classroom. The students were so excited to learn that I would soon be able to print their writing projects in color.

The first project we did was decorate our writer's notebook with images that would inspire our writing. We brainstormed and found pictures of our favorite characters, foods, hobbies, sports and even our families. Now, when students need inspiration for a story they can reflect on their notebook covers.

My classroom writing wall is now filled with student essays that have colored images that support their writing and grab their reader's attention. I have really enjoyed the ease of printing teaching materials such as signs and posters in color. They have helped create a welcoming classroom environment.”

    With gratitude,

  • Chromebooks for the Classroom!

    Funded Oct 9, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donations! The chromebooks and headphones have been a huge hit in my classroom. My students were so excited to learn we would be getting four new chromebooks and headphones.

My students are using the chromebooks every day. They are using various programs that offer individualized support in Math and Literacy. We use Google Apps for Education, which allow me to manage assignments through google docs, sheets, and slides. One student is able to use Rosetta Stone every day to help him learn English. This has had a tremendous impact on his life, both in class and on the playground.

These chromebooks have been a wonderful addition to my student's education. Every day that they log on to their chromebook, they are one step closer to being prepared for the future.”

  • Chromebooks For The 21st Century Classroom

    Funded Oct 10, 2014

My students were so excited when they learned we were getting 8 new chromebooks! They could not stop asking about when they would arrive and how they would get to use them. When they first saw all the chromebooks carted into my room they jumped out of their seats and screamed "they're here!!!" The following day, I demonstrated how they could log onto them using their district Google Accounts. They immediately got to work their online programs.

Each and every student gets to use the chromebooks every day! They get to go on various online programs to give them extra support in math, reading and writing. They love writing using Google Docs. They get to start work at school and continue working on it at home and vice versa. My students even got to participate in "hour of code" which is a movement to encourage students to learn computer coding.

The chromebooks have given me the opportunity to prepare my students for the 21st century. They are constantly improving their word processing and research skills. They are excited to learn and try new things. It has also given me the opportunity to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of ALL of my students through various websites and resources. Thank so much for your generous donation!”

  • Class Materials

    Funded Jan 20, 2014

Thank you so much for funding my classroom materials project! Prior to receiving my new materials, everyday I would hear issues about the computer headphones or glue sticks not working or the inevitable "I'm done, now what?". All of these issues have now been solved and I have time to focus on small reading groups working on comprehension and reading strategies.

My students absolutely loved the new glue sticks. As simple sounding as it is, they were excited to each have their own new glue stick, where they didn't have to wait to share one glue stick with 4 other children. They were also excited to use the blue headphones. The students would even argue about who got to use the "blue computer". Having functioning headphones allows my students to do individualized math and reading work on various software programs we have. The word builders have been such a wonderful addition to my "word work" center. The students are really creative with how they can spell multi-syllable words using a simple beginning, middle and end sound pairs. It has really helped them understand complex vowel patterns and digraphs.

My favorite part of the project was the reading comprehension passages. One book in particular takes one passage and writes it three different ways for students who are reading below level, at level, or challenge. The wonderful part of this is that as we are working in our small groups no one in the class thinks they are reading a different passage from their peers since the topic and questions are identical. All of my students are feeling success and learning new things! I also love the reading comprehension strategies resource where each book has activities to work a very specific comprehension skill such as questioning, inferring, predicting etc. These thinking skills have been taught during our reading workshop and these worksheets help the students who may need extra help understand the process or skill.

Every single item that we received is being used daily and very much appreciated by my students and I. They don't receive new things often at home or school, so they truly understand the importance of these gifts. Thank you so much for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

  • Informational Texts- Books and Magazines

    Funded Oct 22, 2013

My students and I can not thank you enough for the generous gift of books and magazines. As a first year teacher, at a very low income school, I began the year with a very small classroom library and little to no resources on informational text which is vital to meet the new Common Core Standards.

My students absolutely love the magazine subscriptions. They get so excited when they see a new issue of "Time for Kids" or "Scholastic News". They want to jump right into the article without hesitation. They especially like that the articles often come with an online version with videos. They love to take the magazines home so they can read it to their families. They enjoy getting to teach their siblings and parents new and interesting information.

They also love visiting my class library. I think they are more excited to visit my library than the school's library. Once a week students get to check out 2 books from my classroom library. When they find their perfect book, they rush over to me and tell me how cool they think the book is and begin to read it right away. Students are always sharing interesting facts about animals that even I didn't know! Their passion for reading is blossoming and I just love being able to witness it firsthand.

Over the past couple months my students have enjoyed reading informational books about nearly any topic they would like from endangered species to history to sports. Every student has 2-3 books and numerous magazines on hand every day. My students can explore and research topics that they would like during our "Reading Workshop" hour. Having these resources has really inspired and expanded my teaching. Since I have these wonderful texts and magazines, I can really allow students to individually explore topics of interests, while still have them meet the rigorous standards of the Common Core.

Again, Thank you so much for generous donation, my students and I appreciated your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

My students are excited to learn and love to come to school. Their home lives are not always easy and loving. They come from extreme poverty where parents struggle to provide basic necessities. Many enter my classroom two years below grade level in reading, writing and math. It is my job to fill the gaps as best I can, by providing them with all the resources they need to succeed from basic essentials to books to technology. My students deserve the right to a rich and fair education.
