We are requesting a classroom set of ukuleles which will provide opportunities for several students to try an instrument without the expense of purchasing an instrument. The ukulele is also an instrument on which students experience success in the early stages of learning. When students experience success on an instrument, they are more likely to continue performing. Performing on an instrument is beneficial to students in many ways: eye-hand coordination, kinesthetic learning and allowing the two hemispheres of the brain to "communicate" more effectively. Who would not want that for her students? Performing music benefits students in the music classroom, the academic classroom and "out there" in the real world.
