Math is a common thread woven throughout our society. My students have learning disabilities which can make learning and practicing math frustrating. Many of my students have the mentality that math is useless so it is important for me to model how math is applicable and design interactive lessons to engage students. I have found that adding a literary element can engage students and apply what they already know to understand new math content. The donations to this project will give my students the best opportunity to find success in understanding math and make it more meaningful. This Donors Choose Project includes a selection of highly rated math related books including Grapes of Wrath and the Sir Cumference Series that I plan on incorporating in my lessons. In addition to making math applicable, my students need regular reminders of math rules and math vocabulary. To ensure this is readily available I have ordered math posters to hang strategically in my room to improve content retention. During the last two years teachers and students have struggled to move seamlessly from in-person learning to at-home learning and back again. I have struggled to provide my students, who now each have a Chromebook, with digital content and accompanying videos. In order to bridge the gap between physical handouts and digital learning I have asked for an ELMO Document Camera that will ensure that each of my students can see the same content, whether they are learning from home or at school.
